Ryan threw his arms up, as he was already on the ground, and took the splinters to his arms. But the ice started to melt faster than it should.
Aaric spun behind a wall, his leg getting hit by one spike, but avoiding all the rest.

Danielle laughed as she watched them try to dodge and minimize the bleeding. "Rookies! I could take you all on blindfolded. Especially with this lovely friend of yours." She giggled hysterically and ice quickly began to form on the wall Aaric was hiding behind, hoping to freeze some part of him to it.

Aaric didn't notice until he felt the cold. His eyes widened and he struggled, but it didn't do much good.

Zoey's eyes widened in alarm. If she kept this up, she could freeze Aaric solid! "No!" She drew back her bowstring and fired an arrow at Danielle.
Danielle blocked it with more ice and immediately grew spikes from the ice in front of Zoey, which increased in legnth and size as Zoey scrambled rapidly away from them. With ice spreading over Aaric and Zoey back against a wall, Ryan would have to act fast if he wanted anyone to even survive this.

Ryan jumped up, glad his legs hadn't been hurt, and ran for Zoey. He smashed one of the spikes in order to get to Zoey, and the ice around them began melting. Zoey could feel how uncomfortably warm he was.
Meanwhile, apparently forgotten, Kailen sent a burst of sound at Kat. God, he hoped he didn't hurt her too badly.

Zoey gave a sigh of relief when she saw Ryan come to her aid. But then she realized she was not the one his body heat out to be helping. "Ryan! Aaric!" She reminded him. She had shields, Aaric was being frozen alive!
Danielle had, indeed, forgotten about him and was thrown back by the sudden burst. She could have gotten up - the back of the head was bleeding from hitting a particularly sharp piece of ice and there'd be bruising, but this body was still useable - but she didn't see a point.She'd sent her message ad she'd already achieved her goal here of 'cause havoc'. So she left Katiyana's body and returned to her own. She slipped under the ice barrier she'd made for herself and stood p. "Later, rookies!" She giggled, and took off around the corner. She hoped no one was stupid enough to track her. She hadn't taken any of their lives yet.

Kailen tried to blast her again to keep her from getting away.
Ryan looked up sharply at Danielle's words, and finally hurried to go help Aaric. Aaric was in the process of turning blue, and as soon as his body parts were no longer locked in ice he began shivering violently.

Katiyana blinked, on her back and in pain. She sat up a very little, conscious she needed to help them. What was left of the spikes melted into water instantly, and the larger ice structures quickly began sinking into lukewarm water as well. Satisfied, and with very little energy left, she collapsed back into her her large new puddles of water that were spreading over the street, breathing deeply. Zoey went to help Ryan and Aaric. "Aaric! Oh, come on, let's get back to base and find him a blanket or something."

"Do you think the plane's in the same place?" Ryan asked, hugging the other boy.
Kailen came to see if Kat was okay. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm okay." She said with a sigh and a mild wince. But that was more emotion than she'd shown since they'd met her, making it pretty clear she was not okay. "Just..." She tried her best to sit up on her own. She managed it, but put he hand immediately to the back of her head afterwards.
"I thought the communication earpiece things that pilot gave us was so we could call it down?" Zoey pointed out.

Zoey nodded and called the base.
"Right, sending a plane down for you." Xander replied.
The plane was there in less than five minutes.
Meanwhile, Danielle made her way back to the base. "It's started again," she said nervously into the seemingly-deserted room when she got down there. "There are five more now."

"No! Not at all," Danielle protested quickly. "They were rookies. I gave them a lesson hey won't soon forget."
Zoey climbed in after them and they all flew up back to the main ship. Xander was waiting for them, with a blanket for aaric to help him warm up. "Not bad for the first time." He grumbled approvingly. "Still, I was about three seconds away from sending guys down after you."

"Oh, good, at least we know that when Aaric dies, we'll have backup," Kailen snapped.
"Good, because if you lose to them, I'll give you a lesson you won't ever forget." He stroked her hair, which might have been a comforting gesture from anyone else. "What did you learn?"
