Locked Up and Broken: The Gifted 'Criminals'
Though gifteds have technically been given rights, they still aren't treated equally. It's much easier for a jury to convict a gifted of a crime than a normal person, and judges, though they are supposed to remain unbiased, tend to give gifteds harsher punishments than non-gifteds. Many gifteds find themselves serving harsher punishments for crimes they did not commit, but there isn't any investigation after that. In fact, the only attention paid was by the usual press that gave so much attention to crime, and now especially gifted crime. A few people protested these, but they were quickly quieted. Even when people were supposed to be released, however, there was no real evidence of them getting out of them getting out of prison. Whether it was for their own safety, or because they were trapped inside the jail forever was unknown.

((This is just for reference)) Sharie Starr paced back and forth in her cell, her mind racing. She'd been dropped in here literally minutes ago, but she'd been locked up for a couple weeks. Before this she'd been chained to a hospital bed while they took care of her wounds. She'd been captured in an awful and bloody battle with Alex's team and her team against so many agents... so many... she'd seen her own sister, a teleporter, get shot in the head, seen Emeric go down, watched as the others fought desperately for their lives. She wasn't even sure if Xander made it out alive. But she'd been captured with her heart still beating and taken to a hospital. They charged her with Terrorism. She cared very little what her actual charge was. She'd been imprisoned for fighting for Gifted equality, that's all she cared to know. And now she had to find a way out of here. Bu already she'd tried her powers and found they didn't work. the glass wouldn't break or even budge. and everything in the room was bolted down. But she couldn't stay here. She knew they'd try to break her, they'd done it once before. Her only chance was to be stronger this time around and wait for her opportunity. And hey, maybe she'd get lucky and Xander and whatever was left of his and Alex's teams would break in and try to rescue her. She knew Xander knew she was in here, she'd made eye contact with him in those final, desperate moment. Trying to stay positive, Sharie sat on the bed and began to hum a tune.

A small boy with honey brown hair was thrown unceremoniously into a cell, landing hard on his pale face. It was obvious to anyone who saw him here that he was gifted; if not, there would have been an uproar of protest. A seven year old in an adult prison? The boy made no sound as he was thrown into the cell, even as he hit the ground face first. He turned over and his large chocolate brown eyes stared transfixed in fear at the guard locking him in. "We'll be back for you soon, kid." The guard chuckled as he locked the door. The boy still refused to utter a single sound. As soon as the guard left, he looked around to take in his surroundings. Where was he? Who were those people he could see across the hall? Was he ever going to get out of here. He began to quiver in fear and curled up into a ball in the corner of the room. He was scared. Where was his sister? He wanted his sister to be there, to hold him and tell him everything would be all right. He rocked back and forth, shaking in terror, and for the first time he made a sound. "Beatrice?" He begged quietly, but she was not there to answer her terrified brothers cries. "Beatrice... Beatrice..."

A child. Whoever else they may have put in here, fine, but a little boy? He didn't look any older than Anya. If there hadn't been any evidence that this was not just going to be prison, this would be it. There had been evidence, though. He supposed that many gifteds couldn't be held in regular jails - Trace or Francis could find patterns or discrepancies that would allow them to escape, fire gifteds could heat and bend the bars, any gifted with super strength would simply smash through. But even in a normal jail, he couldn't grow anything strong enough fast enough to help him get out, especially not from his cell, but he couldn't feel any presence from anywhere around. He wondered if it was possible that everything around the place was just too dead for him to detect it, that the conditions were too hard for even him to make up for, especially from his cell. That was becoming the hardest part about all this. The first week had been torture as his entire body protested eating so much to make up for the lack of sunlight. He still slept more than he thought he ever would. Frederick sighed, and sat on the floor of the cell near the door. He needed a distraction. "Hey, can you hear me?" he called quietly through the door.

Victor was once again pounding his fists on he glass. There had to be a way to break it. There just had to be. It was cruel, putting him across from his sister, so close and yet never able to reach her. He had to get to Vivian. He was there to protect Vivian. He'd aleady failed her once. He couldn't fail again. Nevertheless, just like the last three days, the glass would not yield. "Vivian!" He shouted. "Can you hear me?" She didn't look up and he kept banging on the door. How could he have let them get locked up? He'd sworn to protect her... and yet now he couldn't even go to her. He was a horrible brother.
Meanwhile Vivian was sitting in her sell. She could see her brother out of the corner of her eye pounding on the glass of his cell, shouting something she couldn't hear. "You can do that all you like, the glass is never going to move." She said as she sat back against the wall with a sigh, her red and white striped hat partially covering her face. She had no delusions about breaking out. No, escaping would be a long and drawn out process, and take careful planning and cunning. Victor was just going to have to deal with them being separated for awhile.
Though Josiah didn't hear Fredrick, Sharie heard the muffled voice through the wall and looked up. Was she imagining things? Or had that been a voice? She crept as close to the wall as she could get and knocked on it firmly three times. She pressed her ear on it to see if someone knocked back. Maybe she wasn't completely alone here.

"No, she can't. God, do you really think she wouldn't have said anything if she could?" Francis demanded. "Or looked up? Do you have a brain?" He was so sick of the near-constant yelling and banging. "Just shut up already." It didn't help that he could hardly see, at least in comparison to what he was used to, in these stupid cells. It was giving him a headache, one which definitely wasn't helped by the pounding which reverberated in ways that even the shouting did not.
Red smirked as he watched Victor. "Oh, have a little pity on the boy, Viv. He's very single-minded. You should know better than anyone he'll do anything for you." Even side with him, after all.
Frederick sat up a little straighter and knocked on the wall as well, probably harder than he had to.
Benjamin thought he heard something from the side with the little boy before the pounding and yelling started again. It was hard to really hate the guy, but he was a little annoyed with the noise. But what if that girl meant as much to him as Isobel meant to Ben? He wondered if the noise traveled at all to the kid's cell. "Hey, kid."

"Get your hands off of me!" A tall girl muscular girl shouted as she struggled against the three cops trying to keep her subdued. "I'm normal, I still have my rights! You can't arrest me without cause!" "Actually," The cop answered scathingly. "You've been arrested for assaulting a police officer and obstruction of jus-" "Justice my ass! You know full well my brother did nothing wrong! You just want him for his power!" A cop hit her over the head with the butt of his gun and she cried out in pain. They threw her in a cell. She got up in a flash and aimed a spinning kick at the door, but it had already fully closed and her foot merely bounced off the plexiglass. "Come back and fight me you son of a bitch!" She screamed, not knowing he could no longer hear her, tears streaming down her face and anger and fear of what they'd do to her little brother "Josiah! Josiah!" She shrank down to her knees, terrified and angry at her self. "Josiah..." She hit the glass once ineffectually, then lapsed in to angry, depserate sobbing. She knew she had no one to be angry at but herself. She was the one who hadn't fought hard enough. She was the one who let them get captured and put him in danger. She was supposed to protect him. It was all her fault. She quietly cried, wishing desperately she hadn't been so weak. Her mission had been to protect him. And she had failed.

"Shut the hell up, Francis!" He snapped, but he didn't shout again. He knew Francis was right, but he just couldn't handle his sister being so close, and yet so vulnerable. He couldn't help her, he couldn't even speak to her. He knew he couldn't break out of here, but he was too desperate to do anything else. They couldn't be locked up forever.. there had to be a way for him to help her...
"He's just gonna have to grow up, get a brain and figure out that we're not gonna be able to escape by breaking down the glass." Vivian said, sounding bored if anything. "If he had any brains, he'd be forming relationships with the people beside him. It's going to take some complicated planning to get out of this one, Red."
Sharie gasped when there was actually a response. "Can you hear me?" She called through the wall, hopeful someone might answer.
Josiah heard a voice, but it was not the voice of Beatrice. It was a man he'd never heard before and at first, he idn't know where the voice had come from. "Hello...?" He said fearfully to the room.

Kenny Clark watched as the girl was carried in, and watched as the guards walked away before his eyes flicked back to his daughter. "They can't hear you," he said. There had been someone in there before her, but they'd gotten moved, whatever the reason. He knew they could speak to each other, but he'd been one of the very first to be locked up here, and it hadn't taken him long to figure out that the glass blocked out all sound, even with him being here on the end, no one outside of the cells ever seemed to hear him, and he never heard them. He'd also learned about the power blocker. He'd tried too many times to talk to Mia using his power. It was only glass, and the first few days she had been there opposite him, they frequently met each others eyes. It hadn't happened since they both knew for sure. Kenny had even tried it on a few guards in the hope that it was somehow just lingering effects of Cody's powers protecting her memory from him. Of course, none of that had worked.
"At least you can see she's okay, right? So calm down," Francis reasoned.
"Yeah? Who's on your other side, Viv?" Red asked, leaning against the glass.
Frederick grinned as he heard the voice. "Yes, yes I can hear you." It felt so good to actually speak to someone, and she was so new, maybe she knew something.
"Are you doing alright, kid?" Ben asked, honestly worried about the poor boy.

"Huh?" She scrambled to her feet, on the defensive again. "Who's there?"
"Yeah for now." Victor snapped. "What happens when she's not, huh?"
"You know I actually don't know. I have't heard anything over there. Might be empty." Vivian shrugged. "What about you? Who's on you other side?"
"Oh my god," Sharie couldn't help but smile. She wasn't completely alone. There was someone here with her. It was an improvement over that hospital bed, at least. "What's your name? How'd you get here? Are you gifted as well?"
"I'm scared..." Josiah told the mysterious voice. "I want Beatrice..."

"The name's Kenny," he answered.
Francis sighed. "Then the glass still isn't going to break, Victor."
"N- someone new." Red sounded surprised, if she could hear him that well. "I just got somebody put over there. She was screaming."
"Frederick - I'm gifted, I was arrested on false charges. What about you?"
Ben's heart ached a bit. "I'm sorry, kid. She can't hear you. Did she come with you?"

"Kenny?" She asked, making sure she'd heard right. "I... I'm Beatrice. Where are you?"
"Well I have to try something! They're not gonna leave us sitting here in peace forever, Francis! And I can't let my sister get hurt!"
"Huh." Vivian sounded mildly surprised as well. "Wonder what happened to the old person."
"I'm Sharie Starr." She told him. "I... well, I was arrested for terrorism." She chuckled. "I suppose you could say it's accurate. I was part of Hangman's group. I dunno if anyone still remembers us."
"She was protecting me..." Josiah answered, wishing she was still there to protect him "She always protects me."

"Next cell over, sweetheart," Kenny answered.
"So think. Doing something that isn't any use you may as well do nothing," Francis snapped.
Red's voice turned a little excited as he suggested, "Maybe they killed him."
Frederick nodded even though she couldn't see him. "What happened to the others?"
Ben sighed. "What's your name, kid? I'm Ben."

Beatrice blushed and looked over to the wall. She ought to have figured it was something like that. She turned and came a little closer to the wall "Oh. Duh... sorry. So what're you in for then, Kenny?"
"So we sit back and wait for something worse to happen?" Victor sighed. "Whatever Francis." He went and sat in the opposite corner of the room where Francis's voice couldn't reach him as easily.
"Maybe," Vivian allowed. "Why's that got you all excited?"
Sharie sighed. "Executioner and Hangmans teams both walked into an ambush. We had like thirty guys on the eight of us. At least three people were killed. I was the fourth to be taken out of battle, so I don't know how many are still alive."
"Jo...Josiah." He replied timidly. "Ben?" He asked. "Is my sister okay? Are they going to hurt her?"

"Doesn't matter," Kenny answered. "Tell me about your brother."
"You don't have any better ideas," Francis said, but it was still the same level.
Red grinned and leaned closer to the corner. "Well maybe somebody on the other side of this hallway is next, and we'll see." He wasn't stupid enough to suggest Victor specifically.
"That sounds terrible. I hope most of them got out okay," Frederick said earnestly.
Ben swallowed. He didn't want to let this poor boy down, but he couldn't lie to him. "I don't know, Josiah... But you have to stay strong for her, alright?"
