Oh well that figured. But he wasn't going to hide it, he wasn't ashamed. He wasn't about to lie. "I'm still out there. I'm not content with things the way they are."

[Raven]

"What?" Adam asked. "We aren't being hunted any more."

[Gifted]

"That's true, but that's all they've conceded. You know we're still not considered people. We don't have the same rights as the normal people do, we don't really have any at all. They're not forcing us out of society anymore, and that's great! But we can't vote in elections, the law doesn't protect us, someone could beat up one of us in the street and no one would care. We can be arrested without cause, legally discriminated against for work and there doesn't have to be an investigation if one of us goes missing. That isn't what I fought for. I fought for equality. And I'm going to keep fighting for it."

[Raven]

"There are enough ways to get around that. People don't have to know, and there are enough people on our side to get jobs," Adam said. "It must be hard, still fighting. It doesn't seem like anyone else is."

[Gifted]

"They have files on us. You really think employers won't check those for jobs? At the very least, the police will have access to them. That won't end well." Xander sighed. "It is difficult, and you're right, I'm pretty much the only one still out there. But someone's got to do it. I can't just leave things as they are. Especially not after everything I've lost."

[Raven]

"Everything you've lost?" Adam echoed.

[Gifted]

Xander nodded. "I'd give up anything I have to end this once and for all. The only thing I'd never let go of was taken from me a month ago.... Now I can do nothing but keep going and cherish their memories."

[Raven]

Adam looked down at that. "I understand, but you must know why no one's fighting with you. We don't want that to happen to us."

[Gifted]

"Yeah, I realize that. And I dont look down on any of you for it." That was actually somewhat a lie, but if he did look down on the, it was mostly for not seeing the obvious that they weren't actually safe than it was for not giving up their safety to fight. "But just because it hasn't happened to you yet doesn't mean it doesn't or more likely won't still happen. If no one fixes this, one day the police'll be banging on your door and your house surrounded. That's not a fight anyone can win." He shook his head.

[Raven]

"There isn't really a fight that we can win, I'll take my time," Adam said, quiet.

[Gifted]

"And that's your decision. It's just not mine." Xander replied. "And as much as I wish my friends were still alive... I think it would've been as painful for them to remain home and hidden while this continued to occur as it would be for me."

[Raven]

Adam looked up and smiled slightly. "Isobel is happy. She means so much to me, and to Ben. It's an unspoken agreement she won't ever know about: he fights for us, and I'll stay behind to make sure she stays safe. I think it's the only reason he hasn't killed me."

[Gifted]

"Doesn't sound like a bad arrangement." Xander admitted with a smile. "She does seem like a sweet girl."

[Raven]

"She is," Adam agreed. He headed back to the front of the house, towards the kitchen and his wife.

Xander came out a minute later.
"Oh good, lunch is almost ready." Isobel said when she saw the two boys come back in. "What've you been up too, talking away in there?" She giggled.
