Jeremiah Black was a happy child, however what he knew of the magical world scared him. Accidental magic from him and his brother had never been a good thing, even if it had never been particularly bad. At first, it had even excited Jeremy. However, at the first real taste of the magical world, Jeremiah became very, very scared. It was a year before Jeremy got his Hogwarts letter, and he had gone out to a Muggle fair with his father and brother. They walked home, their father being a muggle, and not terribly worried, as it was still light due to the full moon. He never thought that would be why he should worry.
The feral growl that tore through the near-deserted street frightened all three of the Black men, but Gregory was frightened for his children, not himself. "Go hide," he told both of them. Jeremy didn't have to be told twice, but Nikolai wouldn't leave his father.
At the end of the night, Jeremiah Black was completely unharmed physically, but mentally he was less than sound. He went to intensive wizard therapy after watching his father and brother get mauled by a werewolf. Nikolai, at least, would make a full recovery. He'd been knocked out too early to see anything, and a few minor scars along with turning into a wolf at the full moon were the only things that came from that night. That, and the loss of a father.
A year later, Jeremy got his Hogwarts letter, but he dreaded going to the school that would teach him more about magic. The only consolation to him was the idea that he may be able to use magic to one day stop things like that from happening. He came to Diagon Alley with his mother's brother almost a week before September 1st. Despite being excited by all the new, beautiful things, Jeremy couldn't help but feel some slight worry at the magical world he was entering. He held the bag full of coins that he had asked to carry. He wanted to do his shopping himself, though he had consented to letting Uncle Martin tag along. He entered the book shop somewhat eagerly, even though his reasoning was that he wanted to get the most boring stuff over with sooner.

Being the third child in the second child in a magical family and the third child in her generation of a pure blood family, magic was never a surprise to Ms. Nezzera Hawthorn. With that in mind, that didn’t mean it didn’t interest her. Yes, in any time she had she’d be reading her mother’s old school books, and in turn, her brother’s. Though she produced beautiful magic it was never seen as a miracle but an oddity, best summed up by her uncle “It’s interesting that such a plain girl can produce such beauty.” It was comments like these that made her flee more into her books. If she didn’t fit her family’s stereotype of pretty pure blood woman, she’d become something else. At the age of eleven she had developed a certain look. She liked to think of it as an air of intimidation, bur is more of just came off as an introverted young girl with too much to prove. At the same time, she had been invited to numerous school of witchcraft. Though the debate between her family had been rough, Hogwarts was chosen out of her family lineage and tradition. It was that choice that brought her to Diagon Alley today. Hiding away in a stack of books was Nezzera. She was always given a weekly trip to Flourish and Blotts and school supplies or no school supplies, she forced her mother to let her have her time.

"Excuse me," Jeremy said, his pale blue eyes staring down at the girl who was in his way. His square glasses did little to dim the intensity of his gaze. His eyebrows were slightly lowered in what might quickly become a full frown. It was rare that they weren't in this position. "I'm trying to get to the books over there."

A book open wide in her lap, Nezzera looked up at him and asked "Which book do you need?" Her stare didn't move from him and she hardly blinked. She seemed to be dressed to old for her age, with an ironed blouse and a long grey skirt. She seemed to young to be dressed the way she was, but there she sat, staring back at the boy her age.
"History of Magic, it's right behind you," Jeremy said. His expression didn't change much. His uncle was waiting outside, and for all appearances, he was alone.
Nezzera picked her wand and pointed it strongly at the book. "Wingardium Leviosa," she said, a tone as strong as her grip. The book began to float out of the shelf, it was a bit shaky at first but it made its was to the boys hands. Her gaze fell back to the boy in front of her. "Do you want anything else?"
When the book began to float towards him, Jeremy stepped back, letting the book fall to the floor. His frown deepened as he looked at the girl. "I thought magic wasn't allowed outside of school." He snatched the book from the floor before she could make it float again.
"That's true for students," Nezzera said calmly, marking the page in her book before closing it."But technically I'm not a student yet. It's still accidental magic for now."
"That was no accident," Jeremy said, coldly. He turned away to go get his other books, then went to the counter to pay for them with his mother's gold. The huge stack he was carrying by that time was clearly too much for him, but when the shop keeper offered help, he insisted he'd do it himself.

Nezzera looked at the boy and clenched her band tightly. Her face looked calm but her head was filled with rage. 'I'll show you accidental magic,' she thought to herself. Right before she raised her wand her mother walked in "Nezzera, we need to get get you your robes before the place becomes too crowded." Nezzera looked to her mother and stood up,all of her school books already being at the house. "Yes mother," She replied, glaring at the boy before walking out of the store.

Jeremy didn't hear that, otherwise when his uncle decided to go get the school robes he would need, Jeremy would have objected profusely. He gave his books to Martin, who put them in a bag that his uncle carried, which clearly had an enlargement charm placed on it to fit even those. Jeremy hurried along, wanting to get as far away from that girl as he could. Robes were the next logical stop, since as important as clothing was, that didn't mean he had to like buying it. Then they would get his instruments, his owl, and his wand.

After pushing through the crowds, Nezzera walked through the doors of Madam Malkin's.With lines short she found her way to standing on the measuring platform. "These are for Hogwarts uniforms, correct?" The woman asked her mother. However, Mrs. Hawthorn was beaten to the punch by her daughter "Yes they are," Nezzera spoke. The woman smiled and continued "Your aunt was in here just the other day. She was quite sad you weren't going to attend school in Salem," Nezzera put on her best fake smile and said "Well as beautiful as the purple cloak is, I'm happy to be going to Hogwarts."

Jeremiah managed to find a pair of robes that were approximately his size, but when he emerged from the racks, he froze as he saw Nezzera again. His uncle noticed where he was looking and said, "Jeremy, she's pretty, but we still have things to buy. Come on."

Nezzera looked to the boy, her eyes turning into slits for just a moment before she went back to apathy. The woman finished measuring her and said "We'll send your robes to your home by owl Ms. Hawthorn." The woman walked nodded to Nezzera's mother and walked away. Nezzera faced her mother and said "We should get an animal now, right?" Her mother, paying more attention to the new wizarding robes laying on a table. Nezzera turned to the boy and then back to her mother "I'm going to go get my owl," With that she left the store, annoyed by the boy following her.

The shop keeper altered the robes for him as needed, and then Jeremiah gladly avoided Eeylops Owl Emporium. His uncle led him to Potage's Cauldron Shop, which was a very quick stop, and then almost right next door to Wiseacre's Wizarding Equipment. That, too, was a quick stop, since most of the first year items were grouped together in a brilliant bit of planning from the shop keepers. Then Jeremy headed towards Eeylops Owl Emporium and Magical Menagerie, praying that girl had bought her owl already. Stepping into the shop, the noise was a welcome break to all the human chatter that filled the streets outside. It was dimly lit for the comfort of the animals and soft cat, owl, and toad noises filled it. Jeremiah lost track of his uncle as he started wandering through the store, looking at all the different creatures.

Nezzera stood by the owls, looking at the largest bird she had ever seen. She had been staring for close to twenty minutes, now just finally gaining the courage to pet its wing. Though the shop was one of the loudest she'd been in all day, everything seemed quiet now.

Then Jeremy, who was looking the other direction at the kittens, bumped smack into her.

A screech came out of the owl as Nezzera fell backwards. Nezzera fell to the ground, her right elbow being skinned by the floor. Before she let her eyes tear up she was the boy still standing in front of her. He squeezed her eyes shut and gave him a dark look "Watch. Where. You. Are. Going!"

"Don't stand in the way," Jeremy shot back uncharacteristically. Normally he would have apologized, but he really didn't like this girl.

"Nezzera!" A shout came, her mother running up from behind her. "What are you doing on the- What happened?" Without saying a word Nezzera pointed at the boy in front of her, her eyes starting to tear up immensely. Mrs. Hawthorn stared down at the boy, helping her daughter up and holding her close "What do you have to say for yourself?!"
