Jay followed Violet, staying on her left side. The dog stuck to Vickas' right, happily plodding along. They walked for a while before coming across any animals, infected or otherwise. They found a wolf laying under a decomposing tree, obviously infected. It was frothing at the muzzle, shedding profusely. A deep bite mark was on its hindquarters, and there was a bleeding stump where its tail should have been.
"I am not touching it," Jay proclaimed. Vickas' dog whined, and backed away.

"I don't think it spreads that way," I murmured. "Besides, isn't it supposed to be a quality of a leader to be able to lead through even the hardest times and not let anything, even his own health, stop him from doing the best for his underlings?"

I sighed and got a bit closer," I'll put it out of it's misery first...I'm sure it's suffering from the disease...Any problems with it, elf? Since you seem to be so fond of calling humans simply by their race."

Jay turned to address Violet, but instead addressed Vickas with a frown. "I would have called you by your name," he said, "had you given it to me upon our first encounter... But I have no qualm with your proposal, human. Miss," he turned back to Violet with a polite change of tone, "I apologize, but I do not wish to contract the infection, for fear of spreading it among the others."

I lifted my sword up and was about to drive it through the wolf's skull, hesitating in case anyone disagreed.

"I don't think we're supposed to kill them. Didn't Elder Noah tell us to bring them alive?" I objected. "Okay, but since you're so desperate to make sure your only help to this mission will be to kill us if we do get it, shut up and stand back while we do our job. And his name is Vickas, in case you hadn't guessed," I snapped at Jay.

I put the sword away," I guess I forgot seeing it suffer like this... how are we going to take it to him?" I looked at Violet.

"I don't know..." I turned reluctantly to Jay. "Any ideas?" I asked him.

Jay shook his head, not wanting to cause a stir after Violet's outburst. "You could wrap it in something," he suggested, "like a cloak, and carry it back to Elder Noah that way."

"I don't really care about touching it I just don't want to harm it any more...do you think it would get hurt more if we carried it like that?"

Jay shook his head again. "I do not think so, hu--Vickas."

I frowned. "It might be a bad idea to just carry it... What if we contract the illness faster because of it?" I asked Vickas.

"I think it's worth a try," I walked over to the animal to pick it up.

I didn't protest again, but I was clearly uncomfortable with this plan.

I gently picked up the wolf, holding it's mouth shut so it couldn't bite.
