I slept quietly, except for the fact I woke up every time the dog moved.

Jay entered the tent, and sat down on the other bedroll before slowly taking off his leather armor. He saved his dagger for last, just in case.
"I'm sorry about the lack of tents," he said as he fiddled with his greaves, "We had to burn most of our supplies after we realized the plague could spread by contact."

I smiled. "I don't mind. I'm unarmed, by the way," I told him.

"Good," replied Jay. He had taken off all of his armor, leaving a cotton tunic and plain breeches. He walked over to his chest, and opened it with a key from his pocket. Inside, among various journals and books, were two longswords in their sheaths. He put his armor inside, and locked it back up, putting his dagger on top of the flat lid.
"Your friend," he began, "the human. Please tell me he is not from Teak. We have had many problems with humans from there regarding the safety of the forest."

I shook my head. "I don't know, but I think not. Either way, he promised not to harm the forest," I told Jay.

Jay nodded, and glanced outside, trying to think of something to say.
"I should go to bed," he said, "I have the first watch in the morning... Unless there is something you want to talk about, Miss Violet."

I smiled, thinking about what Vickas had thought. I admit I also thought that and wasn't entirely convinced I was wrong. "I would like to thank you for allowing us to stay here," I told him.

"It is our pleasure," said Jay, bowing his head, "Any friend of the wild is a friend of the elves. Now, if you do not mind, I am going to sleep... Elves can function on four hours of sleep, you know."
With that, Jay slid into his bedroll, rolled over, and fell into the trance of sleep.

((I don't think that's as far as this is going to go... I don't think Jay is that innocent...)) I watched him for a moment, then crawled into my own. After a while of unrest, I finally fell into a deep sleep, untroubled by dreams; perhaps for the last time.

Jay was up at the crack of dawn, along with the rest of the camp. Children played games like leapfrog and duck, duck, goose like it was any other normal day. The men and women worked together to make breakfast. A few were positioned at their posts across the perimeter of the camp, just in case any plaguetouched were about. Vickas' companion was licking his face as his way of saying good morning.

I woke up to find a tongue in my face, I scratched its head and spoke to it, maybe I should get out of this habit," Good morning there."

The dog barked, and panted, his tongue lolling out of his mouth. He looked happy that Vickas was awake. He got up and wandered outside, where he stretched lazily.

I followed the dog out watching with interest, I wondered how Violet was doing...and if she was still mad at me.

The dog lifted his head to the sky, and sniffed. He started, and moved his head low to the ground, sniffing for some sort of trail. He wandered around the camp until he came to Jay's tent, where he nosed his way inside. Seeing Violet on the ground, he stood over her, and licked her face.

I followed the dog and turned slightly red when I saw Violet so I stood outside, waiting for her or the dog to come out.
