"To rid yourselves of the disease?" stammered the elf with the longsword. He stepped back, using his sword to keep Violet at arm's length.
"They obviously don't have it," sighed the elf with the dagger. He sheathed his weapon, and instructed the others to do the same, which they did. "My name is Jay. I apologize for the rude welcome; these are troubled times for the forest." He bowed, letting his long brown hair fall around his face. Jay straightened, and turned to the others.
"Go back to the camp," he said in Elven, "It was a false alarm. No plaguetouched."
"Aye," murmured one of the archers. All left, but the one with the longsword lingered for a moment before running after them. Jay held his hand out to Violet in the manner of a gentleman leading his lady.
"Deeply sorry, adventurers. You can tell me your names on the way to camp. Just, speak quietly, for most are asleep."

I felt my cheeks grow warm as I smiled and I accepted his hand. "Plaguetouched. That must be the name you give the infected... I'm Violet Caranes, by the way, it's a pleasure to meet you," I said, polite but warm. It hadn't crossed my mind to use a fake last name, but I had made sure to repeat the name in common so Vickas would hear and understand it.

I followed along quietly...a little lost and I wasn't sure what to say anyway.

Jay led Violet and Vickas to the makeshift camp. Tents were set up all across a clearing, the occasional fire still glowing. Nobody was awake except for a few watchmen around the perimeter, holding a torch in one hand and a bow in the other. A shaggy, wolf-like dog with pointed ears walked up to Jay and nuzzled his open hand. Jay patted the dog, and motioned to an empty tent.
"We recently had a group leave us," he said, frowning, "You can stay there for the night, if you would like. In the morning, you could meet with our leader, and you could discuss the plague... Or, if you would like separate tents, your human friend can stay in that tent, and you could stay with me, Violet..."

I blinked and turned slightly red," I think we'll be fine in the same ent...but I guess that's up to her." I was looking at the ground.

I blinked, trying to keep my cool. "Would you mind if we ate first?" I asked, trying to stall for time so I could talk to Vickas.

"Not at all," Jay replied, slightly disappointed, "Feel free to cook at any of the campfires, just be careful. Only you can prevent forest fires, after all..." He wandered off to one of the watchmen, and struck up a conversation in Elven.
The dog remained, looking up happily at Vickas. Its tongue lolled out of its mouth, slimy saliva dripping down it.

"Wait!" I called after Jay in Elven. "If I do choose to stay the night with you, where can I find your tent?"

"The one made of deer skins," replied Jay, motioning towards his tent. He pondered for a moment why a raptoran would be speaking elven, but decided to let it go, and went back to talking to his friend.

I nodded, turning to Vickas. "Let's go cook," I said so only he could hear. "Do you really not mind having to share a tent? I might be able to gain a small amount of information from him..."

" I don't mind but if you do want to go to get "information" It's not my business we could go over it later." I replied and started heading towards a campfire.

I grabbed his arm, turning him to face me. I glared. "I'm not like that, Vickas. Not unless I think I can get something worthwhile out of it, and not just being there," I snapped.

I spoke when she snapped," I'm sorry it was just a joke...I didn't mean for you to take it so personally. I'll make it up to you I'll cook all of the dinner."

"You didn't sound very joking," I hissed.

"I already said I was sorry...I won't let it happen again," I spoke this time looking her in the eyes.
