Everyone was asleep. Joan crept downstairs to the servants quarters. Down here, everything was made of metal or was white, except for two rooms. The first room you walked into when you went down was an enourmous kitchen, all appliances done in stainless steel, with six o seven fridges, seven or eight stoves, and enough room for all the inhabitantsof the castle to stand in there comfortably. The three rooms off of it were one very very long room full of metal beds with white sheets over white matresses and whit blankets and pillows, in which all of the maids slept (I'm mean enough to place them all in one room, yes, except for a few of the men, the far wall is actually a door that leads to the mens side but Joan doesn't know that) and another was a simple recreational room, with a nice couch and very colourful walls like canvas, a tv and alot of paint buckets in one corner. (I'd given them a furniture catalog and some paint and told them to do whatever they wanted to the room...
) But none of these were the room Joan was looking for. The last room was nearly as elagent as any upstairs, a single beautiful bedroom belonging to the head maid. "Sayoko," Joan whispered to her. "Sayoko!"
After a minute or two Sayoko opened her eyes. "Joan, miss?" she said after gathering her wits about her quickly.
"Sayoko, do you trust me?"
"O-o-of course," Sayoko was startled and confused by the question.
"Then I need you to do something for me," Joan said in a low voice. "Get two speedboats ready. One needs enough gas to get to Talesworth and the other needs enough to get to Ravnoia. And don't tell Gifted about this. EVER. Alright?"
Sayoko faltered. Her job was to serve Gifted, should she really agree to keep a secret? But miss Joan seemed so desperate. "Alright."
"Thank you. And just to be clear, we need the Talesworth speedboat to be able to get to northern Talesworth before landing. This boats not going to see crow,"
Though confused, Sayoko nodded. Joan rushed upstairs. She went as quickly and quietly as she could through the halls until she got to cristels room and cursed. Why did the scientists have to pick TONIGHT to give her her daemon?
But Joan was in luck. As she arrived at the labratory Cristel was just leaving, holding an adorable puppy in her arms. As Joan watched from around a corner, the puppy slowly turned into a mouse and Cristel put the mouse into her pocket and started walking down the hall. Joan rushed up behind her and put her hands over Cristels mouth and eyes.
Cristel gasped and tried to cry out in alarm, but Joans hand was in the way. "It's me, Joan," Joan hissed in Cristels ear. Joan picked Cristel up -the telekinesis doing most of the work of course- and carried her outside before releasing her.
"What the heck was that about?" Cristel snapped in as low a voice as she could manage in the night air.
"I'm sorry, but we could've been heard in the castle. I wanted to talk where we won't be overheard,"
"Well yeah but-" something in Joans face made cristel realise now wasn't the time to be complaining, so she shut up to hear what Joan had to say.
"We're getting out of here. Leaving the castle,"
"What? No!"
"Cristel do you know what's going on here?" Joan asked.
Cristel was surprised at the question. "Well, yeah, it's obvious isn't it? Someones... brainwashing the others or something..."
"Exactly. And there are three people left Cristel. You, me, and Emric. But none of us asked for a brainwashing power. Which means someone didn't get the power they wanted. I've got my telekinesis and you've demonstrated plenty of your mind reading skill. That leaves Emric."
"EMRIC is behind this?" Cristel asked, being slow.
"Yes, and you and me are the last ones standing. We can't stop thisa here anymore. Panem is as good as his,"
"But that's ridiculous! We can't just give up! What about all the innocent people livving under his rule? The citizens?"
"We're NOT giving up!" Joan snapped. "I'm just saying we can't do anything HERE. Plenty of things can be done outside." She waited while Cristel digested this information. "I'm going to go to Ravnoia and give raven the clue for the gifteds Gifted gave us awhile back if we ran into any trouble. If she figures out that we're all gifted, I'll demonstrate my power as proof and tell her what's going on. YOU are going to give the blueprints to Sar like Gifted planned before contact was lost. If Gifted were truly here that's what she'd want you to do,"
Cristel nodded. "But how am I going to sneak into gifteds office to get the blueprints?"
"You have your daemon now, don't you? Turn him into a cheetah and gget it!"
Cristel nodded and set down the mouse. It slowly grew and morphed until it was a cheetah. "He'll talk by tomorrow and his transformations will speed up in a couple days," Cristel whispered. The daemon shot back inside, and was soon back out with the papers. Cristel took them. "How're we supposed to get out of here? We need boats!"
"Taken care of," Joan said. "Sayoko's at the dock."
The two walked through the nearly deserted stereets down to the docks where the two speedboats were waiting.
"Have a good trip," Sayoko said quietly, gesturing to the boats.
"Thanks Sayoko. And remember, this night didn't happen,"
Sayoko smiled. "What didn't happen?" she asked. "Good evening miss," and in a flash she was gone, like a ninja. The two got into their respective boats and took off.
