Stephanie giggled. "Actually, we'd just arrived like a couple hours ago. Can you believe our luck?"
"Good. David, do we have something to bandage the healer with?" "Um, no, we used all the bandages with the last group because they didn't come with a healer..." David kicked the ground nervously. "Ugh. Useless. Sorry, then, normally we'd carry something for you. I'll have to get more."

"That's alright, I recover more quickly than average. I'll manage," Katrina assured them.
Mercy chuckled. "That is lucky. You're fortunate to have escaped without far worse."

"I'm glad." The leader nodded. "What's your name?"
"No kidding." Stephanie agreed. "Do you guys do this a lot?"

"When we can," Mercy answered. "We like to help."
"Katrina," she said. "What are yours?"

"I'm Rook. This little pest is David." He gestured to the child. "And the girl over there is Mercy. We run together take out bases wherever we can."
"That's pretty cool." Stephanie complimented. "I'm sure all the people here are very grateful for it. Although it could probably do with less risk of death." She tacked on as a joke.

Katrina nodded. "Thank you..."
"The agents would escape, attack, or capture you again if we did it any other way," Mercy said. "We did save you and get you out."

"Not a problem." Rook answered flippantly.
"I-I was joking...." Stephanie blushed.

Mercy shrugged and raised her voice. "Are we good to start going?"

"Yeah, Healing's done." Rook nodded. "Alright, we're moving out guys! Try to keep up. Anyone with a power above average capable of helping on defense come talk to me. I'll decide where we need you." "Above average? That's specific." Stephanie rolled her eyes. "What are we talking on the Universal Ability Scale here? 3? 4? ...Wait, that hasn't been invented yet, has it?"

Kailen shrugged, and didn't even consider volunteering. One of the other gifteds did, though. A girl with dark red hair held back in a messy braid. Her dress was messy, but clearly had been well taken care of. "Clara," she said. "I can help."

"What do you do?" Rook asked her. He would be the judge of whether or not she could help. "Should we offer?" Stephanie asked, looking over. "Neither of us are exactly slouches in a fight."

"People being aware of my power won't help me help them any," Kailen responded.
"I reflect physical powers," Clara responded. "They can't effect me."

"That's true, you'll end up wherever you work out ending up. You think I should say something, though?"
"Physical powers? Where's the line drawn there, then?"

"Sure," Kailen said. "If you want to help."
"Anything that has a physical effect," Clara answered. "That isn't inside someone's mind."

Stephanie nodded and went to see the leader. "Alright, we'll need you in the back of the group to play defense. Keep us from getting ambushed from behind." Stephanie reached the leaders side at the sae time as another girl - an eleven year old with chocolate brown hair and a green turtleneck sweater. "You said you needed fighters?" She asked. Rook looked at her and sighed. "Great, another tag-a-long kid. What do you want?" "I'm not some tag a long kid!" The girl seemed highly offended. "I just wanted to help defend these people, I don't need your attitude." "What do you do then, kid?" He asked condescendingly. The girl, frustrated with not being taken seriously, used her telekinetic abilities to rip up a huge oak tree planted near them without breaking a sweat. Then she bashed the tree against another so hard she snapped it in half, much to the alarm of the gifted who hadn't been paying attention. "Is that sufficient for you, oh old and wise one?" The girl demanded. He looked at her for a moment. "I like you." He decided. "Up front with me. You can keep David company." Stephanie chose that moment to interject. "I can control air... fly, remove oxygen, make wind, that sort f stuff." "You stay up front too."
