"It's this way," Katrina said, starting back the way Kailen and Stephanie had come from.

As they made their way through the collapsing building, narrowly escaping falling through floors or getting hit by collapsing ceiling, they saw many gifteds and agents alike trying to flee the destruction. One of the agents raised his gun, maybe hoping to stop them and force them to help him get out, but the floor caved in under him and he fell before so much as getting a single word of his threat out. "This place is gonna bury and kill us all if we can't get out." Stephanie still flinched at the sight of the man falling to his death. "If I wasn't cuffed I could block stuff from hitting us, but with my power suppressed, we're sitting ducks!"

"We don't have time to figure out how to get them off," Kailen said. "Let's just get out!" He moved forward, narrowly avoiding getting crushed. Kailen shuddered.

As the three of them kept moving towards the door, they found up ahead a much larger group of gifteds that had banded together for survival. Some of them were not handcuffed, and those that could help were doing their best to push blockages in their path out of the way and defend the group from attack. They were currently trying to move a pile of debris that had fallen in their path, but the area they were standing in was still unstable. As Kailen, Stephanie and Katrina watched, the upper floors caved in and a large computer desk with a computer that looked like it was from the 90's fell from an upper floor towards them. The gifteds screamed, shoving and pushing each other and trying to get out of the way. But you everyone's surprise, a shadowy tendril snaked off the wall like a solid living creature. It wrapped around the desk and computer and they both simply hung in the air like the shadow was holding it up.

Kailen paused, but soon kept moving. Katrina stopped, not trusting what was happening. Shortly after the desk was caught, the rubble ahead of them exploded apart with a flash of light and a sound like a thunder crack.

The group of gifteds yelped and jumped back, but when the way was clear they weren't going to be hurt they ran down the hallway that had been cleared for them and out the door. Once there was no one around, the shadow let the desk go and it slammed into the ground with alarming force.

Kailen gasped. "Come on, let's get going." He followed the other gifteds down the hall and out the door. Katrina followed after only a second.

A good thirty gifteds were standing outside, far enough away from the building that nothing was going to collapse on top of them. At the front of the crowd was two of the three gifteds who'd pulled this off, the older one grinning as he crushed the building in shadow.
The older man was in his early to mid twenties and was smirking at the destruction through his longer blond hair. He seemed to have been well put together once, wearing a yellow and black striped suit that did not look cheap, but it had clearly seen far better days. The jacket was torn and seared with dirt, with chunks missing in several places, and the white dress shirt underneath was stained with blood. "You three! Get behind me, I've got this." He ordered. "Mercy, they're handcuffed, deal with that. David, is that the last of them?" He directed this question to his tiny companion.
The boy was less than ten years old. He was blond as well, and dirty, but those were his only similarities to his older partner. His hair was short and a much dirtier blond, and he wore a simple white shirt and khakis that were easy to run in. The kid had no shoes, and was curiously holding an extension cord that seemed to be connected to an outlet in the collapsing building. His eyes were wide and he watched the older boy's destruction with an air of excited glee. "Yup! That's the last of them!" He assured his friend.
"Excellent." The older man said. "No more holding back, then." Shadowy figures rose from the ground, dozens of black shadow men appearing from nothing. They rose up like the undead and made their way towards the building in hordes. The man seemed satisfied. "Leave no human left alive in the building." He ordered viciously. The shadows entered the building and the place completely and entirely collapsed in on itself, leaving little to nothing salvageable. He withdrew his shadows. "You all alright?" He turned to make sure the other Gifteds were okay. "Is anyone here a healer? I see some injuries that need to be taken care of."

There was something pressing at the back of Kailen's mind, just out of reach. The girl called Mercy smiled and strode forward. "Turn around," she requested, and when Katrina did as she asked, Mercy put her finger to the metal, quickly slicing away both of the cuffs. There was a faint burn line on one of Katrina's wrists, but she ignored it. Kailen's eyebrows shot up and he turned around so his own could be removed.
At the leader's question, Katrina spoke up. "I am. Who needs the most help?"

"Can you heal yourself? No sense in you passing out while helping others. I'll get the wounded separated from the others in the meantime." The leader told them. Stephanie too felt something nagging at her, but this man had saved all their lives. Whatever it was couldn't be too terrible. Even if it was, now was not the time to dwell on it. She sat next to Kailen and waited for this Mercy girl to finish breaking off their handcuffs.

"I can't, but I'll be okay," Katrina said. The wounds on her head and arm had begun to stop bleeding since the cuffs were removed.
Mercy wasted no time, and had them both free before too long at all. "There. Better?" She asked.

"Well, in that case, I'll get people separated quickly so you have room to work." "Oh, I'll do it! I'll do it!" David offered eagerly. He raised his voice and clapped his hands. "Alright people, you heard the man! If you're injured, stand over here and a healer will see you, if you're not move over here so you're not in the way. Come on, let's go!" The leader rolled his eyes. "Stupid kid."
"Yes, thank you." Stephanie smiled at Mercy. "My name's Stephanie."

Katrina glanced at him, then smiled at the boy. "Thank you." She began working, and once she had touched someone they were almost instantaneously healthy. The more minor injuries began knitting together in close proximity to her.
"I'm Kailen," he offered. "Mercy," she said, smiling. "Are you two okay?"

David beamed. "No problemo, ma'am! Happy to help!"
"Yes, we're fine, we weren't injured." Stephanie nodded.

"How long were you trapped in there?" Mercy asked.
It didn't take long for Katrina to completely heal the injured gifteds.
