WINTER IS COMING

Kailen got a square for himself and one for Stephanie before handing the spatula to his father. "Thanks, Mom."
Adam slowly got himself some food as well, his eyes kept flicking to the television.

The news was talking about some homicide that had occurred in the area. "Fifth body found in Aggie Park in the last three months. The victim here was twenty-two year old Patricia Evans, a woman who lived just three miles from the site they found her body. Police say Patricia suffered extensive electrical burns to her chest and neck, and is likely yet another victim of the serial killer plaguing the area."
"Electrical burns, huh?" Stephanie bit her lip. She knew what this was about.

[Raven]

"It's unfortunate," Adam said. "You guys will have to be careful."

[Doom]

Monique, already dishing out another helping and only halfway paying attention, said, "That's a weird MO."

[Raven]

"It's not that strange," Kailen said. "No weirder than any other serial killer."

[Gifted]

"I agree with Monique." Stephanie responded. "It's very difficult to weaponize electricity. It worries me what the implications of these murders might be." Stephanie glanced at Kailen uneasily. He knew she often knew more than she let people on too.

[Doom]

Monique gulped down a mammoth bite of lasagna. "What do you mean?"

[Gifted]

Stephanie shrugged. "Might be nothing." She answered. "But who carries around electricity just in their bag? Sure, tasers exist, but that's not usually looked at as a lethal weapon."

[Raven]

Kailen glanced back at her, his previously unaffected expression turning to one of worry. "I mean, serial killers carry around plenty of weird shit, Stephanie."
"Kailen, don't swear," Adam chastised.

[Gifted]

Stephanie shrugged, not wanting to talk about it in front of Kailens parents. She really shouldn't have said anything at all, but with everyone at this table being gifted...

[Doom]

Monique, not really perceiving what Stephanie was worried about, said, "He's right, though. Serial killers might be insane, but they aren't random. They plan ahead and prepare murder weapons. Maybe he sets up a battery and jumper cables?"

[Raven]

"Anyway, this is hardly a discussion for dinner," Adam said. "Eat up, guys. You can talk about this later if it's that fascinating.

[Gifted]

Stephanie nodded, but she couldn't eat after that. She just picked at her food glumly.

[Doom]

"Don't have to tell me twice." Monique continued attacking the lasagna.

[Raven]

Kailen lapsed into silence, though he didn't eat much either.
"Save room for dessert," Adam said cheerfully.
