"Good." I responded.

"Right. Well, then, it's been a long day so I'm going to go get something to eat. Let Lynn know if you need anything."

"Uh huh." I said flippantly. "I'd work on upping your security if I were you lot, but whatever."

[Raven]

"Are you still trying to threaten me? Sure winning you favors," I said.

[Gifted]

"I'm not trying to threaten you, I'm actually fucking worried about people dying! I put in a hell of a lot of effort to make sure you lot weren't killed. You know my team was the only one in the agency where policy wasn't 'capture, but if you can't killing is better in the long run than letting them escape'? People were starting to resent me for holding shit up because I wasn't willing to have people killed so yes Lynn, I'm talking about the fact I've been actively preventing murder from taking place more than any other agent has and yet I'm still on their side. Should tell you something. Now either my team is gonna come back with a vengence or if yo're lucky the higher ups will disband it and start sending other generic teams of agents to kill you because at least you'd have an easier time fighting those ones. Improve your fucking security."

I paused and turned around. "Dakota," I said. Kenny and Lynn both looked baffled, and Lynn looked anxious. "I really do need to eat." I left the room.

I gasped, and it was clear the word had meant something to me. I went to speak up, to tell her she was, right, to give her the information I'd been offering, but she left the fucking room! I glanced at Kenny, for once not guarded. He didn't get it, of course. I knew he wouldn't get the riddle even if she told it to him.

[Raven]

He smiled hesitantly, glad she at least didn't look terrified of him. "Was that some kind of code word?"

[Gifted]

"That was... the answer. To my riddle." I responded. "I mean I expected her to solve it, but that was... fast."

[Raven]

"Riddle?" Kenny questioned. "When did you ask her a riddle?"

[Gifted]

"Like two days ago, over the radio. I didn't want you hearing. I told her I'd tell her the stuff I only told you because you were lying to me if she solved it. I looked back at the door. "Apparently she doesn't want to know very badly."

[Raven]

"She thinks you're brainwashed," Kenny pointed out.

[Gifted]

"Yeah well I was pretty convinced you were manipulating her due to neither of you answering your fucking phones for a month and a half and you fucking blackmailing me with Mariah's life, thanks. So I guess we were both wrong."

[Raven]

"One of those things remains to be seen," Kenny said. "No thanks to these assholes."

[Gifted]

I rolled my eyes. "Yeah well, if you get out of here do yourself a favour. Keep an eye on Victor when he battles. Can't say much more in front of her." I jerked my thumb at Lynn.
