Ben, taking a risk, took one of the dug-out looking ones when he cam across it, trying to locate it on the map.

After stumbling across it for about another half hour, Ben saw an old structure off in the distance. It looked like it hadn't been kept up all that well, but it was shelter and it was getting later in the afternoon.

Ben sighed. He had no idea if he had found the right home, or any number of other things, like if anyone would answer even if it was the right place. He hesitated a moment, then went to knock on the door.

She opened the door. Isobel had ditched the old pink dress for a darker one, a blue almost black in colour. She seemed very, unhealthily thin and her long black hair looked messy and unkempt. But none of this was the most alarming thing about her appearance when he saw her. It was her eyes. Her eyes seemed to have lost all light in them, all hope and happiness. They always seemed to be directed downwards, like she couldn't handle looking out at the world anymore. There was a darkness in her eyes, and i was clear these were the eyes of a girl who had been broken a long time ago.
She looked up briefly at Ben and a forced smile spread across her face for a quick second. She stepped back from the door and gestured for him to come inside.

It caused a physical pain in his chest to see his beloved sister like this, and he had to resist the impulse to hug her. "Thank you, Miss. I must have gotten turned around on the trails... He entered the small cabin, though it worried him that she would let people in so easily.

The first thing that hit Ben walking in was the smell. It smelled wonderful in here, like fire and freshly baked things. It was a three room cabin, with a fireplace that had a fire blazing merily in it, and two bedrooms off to the side. The entire room had stacks upon stacks of tupperware containers lining the walls. Plates upon plates filled with sweets sat on the counters; brownies, pastries, cookies, cakes... Looking in the tupperware containers revealed even more sweets, each with the date of being baked writing on the top of the dish in black marker. Every dish was full, or had only one or two sweets missing from the container. Most of the containers had been re-used, with the previous dates on them crossed out. Isobel flashed that brief smile again and pulled out another plate. She started pulling an assortment of all different sweets out of containers to put onto the plate, unil it had almost anything imaginable you could bake on it, from cheesecake to sugar cookies to mint chocolate brownies to even a slice of ice cream cake. Satisfied, Isobel put this new assortment plate down on what was probably her dining room table, a small round table built for only two, as if offering it to him.

Ben glanced at the plate, but looked back up at Isobel. "Thank you again..." The whole time he'd been trying to think of a name that hadn't belonged to anyone Isobel would know. He'd almost said 'Alex' before he remembered. "I'm Oliver." He hoped it wouldn't bring up any memories for her, but he also hoped he could remember the name.

She nodded and pointed to an icebox, which she'd written her name on presumably so nobody would steal it.

Ben nodded. "It's nice to meet you, Isobel... Can you not speak...?"

Isobel sighed and looked down at the floor, looking like she might cry. She gave a minute shake of her head.

"It's alright. Thank you, Isobel." Ben tried to smile reassuringly, but it just hurt too much to see his sister like that.

She looked back up at him and flashed another one-second smile. She got up ad pulled out a box of stuffing from a cupboard and some chicken from the icebox and started cooking the two of them something for dinner.

Ben sighed, and didn't touch the sweets. It just didn't feel right.

Isobel looked back to him as she worked, seeming surprised he was neither eating nor talking. She didn't comment though, just continued to cook quietly.

"Thank you so much for letting me stay here," Ben said.
