The crow dropped to the ground, and exploded.
No, not like that. Its body seemed to dissolve into the ground, and with a ghoulish light, hundreds of crows burst out. They formed a massive, dark swarm, and flew up into the night, cawing like a rabid mass. An unearthly silence settled upon the forest as the swarm flew away.

"Yea I'm fine...did It get you at all?" I watched as the Crow became several and racked my brain to see what I knew. (Knowledge(Arcana) good for more than just making me into a dragon disciple later [dice=20+9] )[rand=624260657895446683994624011451479979092677150667731209354173861]

Vickas knew that, from its explosion, it was a murder crow; after they died, they seemed to... explode into a swarm of crows. It's theorized that the released crows are souls that melded together to form the murder crow.
Violet thought that the crow had, in its death throes, magically reproduced with itself and gave birth to hundreds of crows.

"That's good to hear..Apparently that was a Murder Crow...they explode into a swarm of normal crows when they die." I looked at her and then back to the swarm flying away.

"Oh." Not what I had thought, but I was never the most intelectual. "Well, we should probably get going..." I shifted feet nervously. ((I just realized, they could hold hands and walk beside each other while holding their weapons in their strong hands |D))

I smiled and nodded before speaking,"Probably...I'll try and pay more attention from now on...another surprise attack wouldn't be very good." I was begining to feel comfortable around her...maybe that's a bad thing.

I nodded. "We should keep going," I said, turning to continue through the trees.

I started walking again, on the right side of her this time, holding my sword in one hand, because it was uncomfortable walking while carrying it in two hands. I glanced around, trying to pay more attention.

As they walked, they passed more rotting plants, complete with decomposing assassin vines.

Both of them could make out a conversation nearby, but only Violet could understand it. It was in Elven, so to Vickas it sounded like a bunch of gibberish. To both, it sounded like several different people arguing, a whining child punctuating the conversation now and then. Violet saw two pairs of hoof prints in the ground, along with wagon tracks and several pairs of foot prints. Violet made out the following snippets in Elven:
"We can't stop for the night!"
"Why not? The horses are dead tired, I'm tired, and so's everyone else."
"Who would keep watch? We must keep going until we reach Teak!"
"Daadddyyy! Where's daddy at! I want daddy!"
"He's gone, sweetie..."

I held my finger to my lips, not wanting to frighten them. "This way," I whispered, taking his hand and pulling him through the trees.

I followed her without resistance, I was walking quickly and trying to be quiet.
