I rolled my eyes. "Best we go, then. I wish you well, Jay." I strapped my sword belt around my waist. As I walked with Vickas through the camp I muttered, "I'll have to put my armor on before we leave."

"May Ehlonna shine her grace upon you," Jay said, bowing towards Violet. He walked into his tent when they left, and the dog happily followed Vickas, long tail wagging.

I walked alongside her not saying much.

They walked in the direction Jay had pointed them in. Sitting on a rotting tree stump was a tall elf in a meditative state, wearing a decorative robe and holding a gnarled quarterstaff. Sitting on its haunches next to the elf was a gigantic wolf, taller than Violet at the shoulder. Vickas' canine companion whimpered at the sight of it, and stuck its tail between its legs. Both the wolf and the elf had their backs to them, and didn't do anything signaling they noticed Vickas and Violet.

"Excuse me? Jay told us to meet you here," I said, just loud enough.

I stayed quiet and let Violet do the talking since these elves didn't seem to like humans, I scratched the dog behind the ears and waited for the elf to reply.

"I hope he wasn't rude to you," said the elf, not bothering to turn around, "He is a bit... distrustful, to say the least, of foreigners. Especially humans. So, you're looking to cure the plague, correct?" The wolf stood up, and turned around to face the pair (trio, counting the dog). His muzzle was covered in scars from numerous battles, and his eyes had a cloudy, glazed look to them.

"He was quite kind and that is correct," I told the elf.

I nodded and continued scratching the dogs head.

The elf nodded, and turned around. His eyes were milky white, and he wasn't looking in any specific direction, suggesting he was blind. He looked very old, especially for an elf, a race that always seemed eternally young. He stood up, leaning on his quarterstaff for support, and walked over to the pair.
"First things first," he began, "I'm Elder Noah, and my friend here is Coran. He doesn't bite strangers, just don't pet him. Our true leader died assisting us in the escape from our village, and I was elected as temporary leader. Jay's the deputy, and he takes his job far too seriously, if you ask me. Well." He rested his head on the top of the staff. "First! We think that the plague comes from blood bushes, but we've heard of elves being stuck with their needles and not contracting the disease. Blood bushes grow around decomposing matter, which is rich in nutrients. So it must be the decomposing things that contracted the disease originally. If we can find a primary source that's still alive, we may be able to figure a few things out.
"Are you up for some hunting?" asked Noah, smiling.

I nodded and spoke to him," Hunting sounds fine to me, what do you think Violet?...I was also wondering if this dog might be able to come with us... he seems to have taken a liking to us already." I spoke and was scratching the dog some more.

I smiled. "Anytime," I said. "But the dog hasn't taken a liking to us, he's taken a liking to you." I looked at Vickas, grinning.

"Did you forget how you woke up this morning?" I asked her sticking my tongue out at her.

"Then he got scared when I woke up and went back to you. He growled at me last night," I told Vickas.

The dog looked up at Vickas, and barked happily.
"That's an Elven Hound," observed Noah, a surprised expression on his face, "Those rarely obey, let alone like, anyone other than an elf. I'm certain he would love to come with you two, though, considering his happy demeanor." Noah coughed lightly into his sleeve. "What I would need you two to do, then, is to find creatures that look like they're plaguetouched. Tired, coughing, vomiting, acting far out of the norm; any of the symptoms that apply to plaguetouched humanoids. Bring me, hm, bring me two, of any species, preferably something small. Then we can figure out how they got infected, and discover the source of this epidemic. We'll go from there. Sound good?"
