"Phones!" He said with a big smile. "Computer videos and skype calls. Radios. Televisions! And that's just when I'm not touching them." He sounded excited, but then he glanced around. "But I don't hear anything here... why is it so quiet? It bothers me..."

"Oh, you're technokinetic, huh? Sorry, we don't have any of that here. Phones and internet signals wouldn't work this far underground anyway, and we don't want to risk the government using those types of things to locate us," Kenny explained. "We have a computer in the base, but it's not connected to the internet. It just runs independently."

David couldn't exactly stop crying on command, but he was rubbing his eyes when a flat voice made it down the hall. "Who are you?"
It was Barbra. She didn't look great; she'd never gotten back together with her friends after the ordeal and tended to wander outside alone by herself or stay in bed when she wasn't in class. Her grades had dropped significantly. She was staring directly at the little kid who looked like her brother from behind, but she knew it couldn't really be him. But he was crying, and that caused her to speak up.
David didn't even realize someone was speaking to him.

Kenny's reaction caused David to look over. Barbra couldn't help but feel a tad disappointed, even though she knew it wasn't Josiah. "You ok, kid?" She asked.
David nodded and continued trying to dry the tears, though it wasn't really working. The silence seemed to press on him like a physical presence.
Barbra put a hand on his shoulder. "Buck up, kid. You're gonna be safe here. You have a bright future ahead of you." She let him go and walked away.
"Who's she?" David said through his tears, a bit confused.
