Nisha nodded. "I'm sure you'll do great whatever the case. You clearly want this."

Opal nodded. "It'll be great." Suddenly they heard a voice over the loudspeaker. "Would all first-year students please report to Beacon cliff for initiation. Again, all first year students please report to Beacon cliff, immediately." "I guess that's our cue." Opal swung her ax, grinning. "Let's do this!"

"Yeah," Nisha agreed, grinning. "This will be awesome." She headed up that way, joining the flow of students that came with them. The headmasters were waiting for them. "Please line up on the squares," the deputy headmaster said, "and we will explain the initiation." As the students went to do as they were told, the headmaster took over. "Welcome, students, to your first year at Beacon. This rite will determine your future at our fine school, in more ways than one. Upon the start of the initiation, you will be launched into the forest below - beware, there are many Grimm, and you will need to pass to the forest, find the ruins, and secure an artifact in order to continue your education here." He looked around at all of them. "Furthermore, the initiation ceremony will determine your teams - the other students who you will live with and depend on for the entirety of your time here at Beacon Academy. Specifically, once you've landed, the first person you set eyes on will be on your team. Good luck, and before the launch, think of a landing strategy." Both men headed off to the side. The students suddenly seemed a lot more nervous, and then the platforms began to launch the first people.

Opal grinned. "Piece of cake." She braced herself for launch and held her weapon at the ready.
Tang had no problem with this either. She grinned. She'd been recovering from great falls since she was a tiny child, all she had to do was- wait, she couldn't do that or they'd find out her secret. Well, that was no problem, she could always- wait, she couldn't do that either. Shit. How was she going to do this with the ideal tool for this situation unavailible to her? She'd always been able to use them before, what was she going to do?!
Fuchsia tried her best not to look nervous. She didn't know enough about any of these people to guess if they had Semblances that would help her stick the landing. There was the Blake boy, but he couldn't help. Should she just turn into someone who looked confident and hope for the best?
Gri had already done something like this before. Using the same technique as last time wouldn't be a problem.

Nisha found herself wishing not for the first time that her semblance would activate properly, but she could hardly ever get it to work.
Xanthene sighed. Well, she'd have to figure this out. Oh well, she'd get it. Things couldn't go too terribly.
Roux bounced on the balls of her feet. Trees were easy. They were what she was made for.
Meanwhile, Albion was completely unconcerned. Even if he totally biffed this and landed hard, his shield would protect him. He held his weapon firmly and launched into the air, rolling upon landing and getting to his feet. He was fairly certain that would have hurt if not for his semblance.

Opal launched first. She flew through the air, letting gravity and force carry her fast towards the ground. Then when she was getting a little too close for comfort she began to slow, slowly lessenning her speed in the air until she landed lightly on her feet with no trouble at all.
Tang got into position, knowing she wasn't ready, and was launched. "Shit, shit, shit, shit!" She was stable in the air but she was going to break both her legs if she couldn't slow her fall somehow. Should she risk using-? No, she couldn't so soon, but she couldn't be rejected before she'd gotten anywhere, either! In desperation, she grabbed her staff. No way the old pole was strong enough to not snap in half if she tried this. But it was all she had. She could fix it later, right? Right?! She passed the tree line, and scrunched her eyes shut. The hook his a tree branch, swag around and off, launching her forward and making some of her momentum move forward instead of down. She managed to catch and swing off, clutching her pole like a lifeline, and she did it twice more before taking an impact to the ground. It had slowed her down enough that though she tripped upon the hard impact of her feet to the ground and got a face full of dirt, she didn't sustain any real damage other than a painful skid across the grass. She got up and brushed herself off, fixing her jacket. "Ugh. I sure am glad no one I know saw that." She carefully fixed her shirt so it was partially tucked in, ran her fingers through her hair a few times and continued onward.
Gri stabbed her boomerang into the top of a tree, letting the friction and the branches she hit slow her down until she slammed into the ground.

As Nisha neared the ground, she shot off a bolt that stuck in a tree, and the rope she'd attached to it pulled her up away from the ground. Nisha swung there for a while until the momentum ran out, then she stepped calmly to the ground and looked around.
Xanthene used her knives to catch a tree branch. It broke, but caught enough of her momentum that when she landed and rolled she was more or less unscathed.
Roux caught herself in the trees and began climbing through the branches, but she screamed when Albion landed nearby, hard.
He stood and looked up at the girl - his partner, it seemed.

Tang caught her breath and began to move on her own through the forest. That was the most stressful part. The rest shouldn't be too hard. She hoped that Roux girl had found someone she liked. Tang hoped she herself found someone cool, too. Before she ran into anyone, however, she heard growling. Red eyes appeared in the bush. Great, Grimm. She twirled her staff and gothe ready to fight. "Oh, you wanna go then?"
Opal pushed her way through the forest, keeping her ears out for others. Hopefully ones that wouldn't hate her on sight.

A bolt hit it in the eye, but it didn't kill the Grimm, just make it angry. It roared. "Oh shoot." Nisha fired off another bolt.
Xanthene wasn't exactly the hardest person to find, marching through the woods as she was, the bright yellow ribbons around her middle and her arms standing out against the dark forest.

Tang used the creatures distraction of the bolt in its eye to flip over atop of it and drive one end of the staff into its neck. She grinned and leapt off. "Thanks for the help! Guess this makes us partners now?"
Opal caught a glimpse of color and called out in the forest. "Hey! Who's there?!"

"Yeah," Nisha smiled slightly, but she was a bit nervous. "I'm Nisha..."
Xanthene glanced towards the voice, looking around for any Grimm nearby before answering. "Another student. You got a partner yet?"

"Tang." Tang introduced herself. "You're not bad with a crossbow, Nisha. What's your semblance?"
"No!" Opal called. She hadn't made eye contact yet, or really directly looked at the girl. "What's your name?"

"Xanthene," she called back. "You?"
"Thanks... I er, I haven't discovered it yet." It was a small lie. She couldn't use it reliably anyway.

"Ugh. Great. Productive pair we're gonna make." Tang grumbled, though without completely losing her smirk. "I can't use mine either."
"Opal!" She hesitated. "Skobeloff."

"Cool," Xanthene said, not offering her last name. "I hope you don't expect me to call you by the whole thing." She didn't recognize the name off the top of her head, but even if she did, it would mean little to her.
Nisha looked a little relieved. "Hey, we'll just have to be even better with our weapons."
