Persecuted and Over-Powered

Kailen followed after them, and at one point, Austin checked over his shoulder, almost catching him. Still, he managed to follow them to the house, and froze time when they got there while the door was open, taking all the time he needed to hide where he wouldn't be found before resuming.

Stephanie went into her room, sitting down at a desk with a pencil and paper and staring at a stubbornly blank page. The room was huge, with a lush thick carpet, a bed that looked small in the space, three dressers, a wardrobe and a closet, and two desks, one of which had a computer. However, oddly there was nothing else in the room. No toys from when she was younger, no posters on the warm walls, no television or games. For someone from such a wealthy family, it seemed odd that she had no source of entertainment except possibly the computer in her room whatsoever.
It wasn't long before her father entered the room. "I'm in and out quick today, but Austin told me you were back. What did you get?"
Stephanie looked pale. "Nothing." She answered fearfully, clearly bracing herself for an attack.
"Nothing?" Cody's tone was chilling.
"The outfit you told me to wear, it wasn't mature enough, he kept saying I was too young for him!" Stephanie tried frantically to justify herself.
"How stupid could you possibly be, Stephanie?" He spat. Cody shook his head and turned away. "Stupid commoner brat. You aren't worth the clothes I put on your back. Your mother and I ought to dump you back in the dumpster you clearly came from."
"I'm your daughter! I'm a Clark!"
"Then start acting like it!" Cody shouted at her. "Your aunt had twice your skill at half your age. I gave you the easiest possible job you could have gotten but you struggle to grasp the most basic of concepts! What do you want me to do?! Do you want Austin to babysit you like the child you act like?"
"I don't- I'm trying, I swear..."
"Any daughter of mine wouldn't have to be 'trying'. If you had half the brains of anyone who owns that Clark name you wear like a badge, you would have grasped the simple fucking concepts by now. You better be happy your great uncle isn't here to see this. He would be ashamed that this is where the Clark name is going."
Stephanie was crying by now, her angry father towering over her. "I'm sorry... I'll do better, I promise! I'm a Clark, I can do this.. "
"Neither of those things look very true from where I'm standing." Cody spat. "Get practicing. Don't even try to come out before you're done." Cody walked out,slamming stephanies door as he went. Kailen heard it lock as the man left his distraught and broken daughter alone.

Kailen frowned. How could her dad treat her like that? She was clearly upset and he just kept yelling? Kailen didn't understand it, but he couldn't exactly talk to anyone here. He stayed put for only a moment, then went back for his Stephanie, appearing close to the time he'd left and walking back to Stephanie.

Stephanie grinned at him. "Kailen! You're back." She smiled at her friend.

[Raven]

"Of course I am, were you not expecting me to?" Kailen asked

[Gifted]

She hugged him. "Did you get some sleep?"

[Raven]

Kailen embraced her. "Yeah, I'm well rested and I didn't find any trouble." He smiled

[Gifted]

"Good." Stephanie yawned. "I'm gonna get some sleep now. Wake me up when it's time to go."

[Raven]

"You'll wake up before then," Kailen assured her, and waited for her to fall asleep then paused time. He got up and headed off into the woods, letting Stephanie sleep.

Walking for about an hour back the way they had come from, he came across a frozen scene of panic and fear.
Garnet and Flare were surrounded by by three agents, fighting for survival. Flare was cowering behind a tree, trying to stay out of things while Garnet defended them. But it wasn't enough. At the very moment Kailen had paused time, one of the agents had gotten her by the arm. Given another second, he would pull her towards him and both girls would be stuck.

Kailen hadn't been happier to find someone in a long while. He unpaused the two of them, and the agent who had Garnet, and Garnet tried to pull away. "Flare, run!" She shouted.

[Gifted]

The agent yanked Garnets arm, pulling her back towards him and preside a gun to her head.
"Garnet!" Flare cried in alarm.
"Alright, Missy. You're going to come out real slow, palms down, okay? Then your friend here might just get to live."

[Raven]

"I think you should take another look around," Kailen said. "You're outnumbered, and your friends are dead if I say so."

[Gifted]

"Outnumbered? Hardly. There's three of us, three of you, and scaredy cat here wouldn't even lift a finger to help her friend."
Flare looked from Kailen, the creepy boy who could freeze animals and rivers without killing them, back to the agent. Here he had again mysteriously appeared out of nowhere and now was offering to help... maybe. She thought. But she didn't trust him at all. His power unsettled her too much. Which meant she had no choice. She stood up. "I'm not afraid of you." She said, though her voice shook and seemingly contradicted her. "Let her go. Please, if you don't you will regret it." She begged.
"Pfft. Look lady, you're going to surrender or this girl is going to get a bullet in her skull!"
Flare looked to Garnet, genuinely apologetic. "I'm sorry."
She made a gesture in the air and a knife formed from ice above her hand. She grabbed it and, with shocking accuracy, threw the blade and found her mark in the hand holding the gun. The man howled in pain and dropped his weapon.
"Garnet, get out of there!" Flare shouted, conjuring another one.

[Raven]

Garnet didn't hesitate, she ran towards Flare. "Run!" she insisted.
Kailen looked after them, backing away from the agent.
