"It's not as impressive as it sounds, really," Kenny said with false modesty. "It didn't take much on my part, though it was very important for Caroline. Would you like to share?" he asked the girl beside him.

Caroline gave a nervous laugh. "Sure, I guess. It's not like people aren't going to be able to tell." She rubbed her lip where her scar was self-consciously. "My parents..." She couldn't yet get all the words out, so used to locking it up and keeping it quiet. She shook her head after a minute. "Nevermind, it's not important."

Caroline shrugged, no longer smiling. She felt ashamed she couldn't get the words out, and uncomfortable with talking about it. It's not that she minded if Ayane knew...

"It's alright, Caroline. It was hard for me too. It will get better," Kenny assured her, kissing her head. He looked to Ayane, still holding Caroline close. "Caroline's parents were extremely violent, especially towards her. She lives here now, so she doesn't have to be with them any longer."

"Kenny rescued me from them." Caroline told her. "He brought me here where I'm safe." She looked up at him and tried to smile.

"This is a safe haven for everyone, from Caroline to Abigail," Kenny said. "I'm always glad to help, especially people who need it so badly." Especially to those who were abused, because Kenny couldn't stand seeing it, even if he wasn't much better.
