"No wonder you found him, he wasn't even trying yet." I muttered mutinously. "Kenny, on't be too hard on him ok? He's not actually supposed to be here, so ease up a little. Don't let him escape or anything, but there's no need to be so degrading. Hell of a lot of pride in this kid and it won't make sorting this out properly any easier."

Kenny merely nodded and helped Red back up. Fury swam in the boy's eyes, and his fists were clenched so hard his nails dug into the palms of his hands.

"Calm down Red. I need to talk to you. We may be able to work something out."

[Raven]

Red closed his eyes and opened his hands, forcing himself to relax. "Yeah, and what's that?" Red demanded

"Your sister. You want to keep her safe, right?" I said. Then I must have realized that sounded like a threat, because I backtracked. "I'm not trying to be threatening, I'm sorry that sounded bad. It's actually the opposite of that. I'm offering you professional protection for her. For the next... you look about fourteen, fifteen? We'll say until she's eighteen."

[Raven]

Red looked absolutely livid for about ten seconds before God explained herself. Then he looked calmer than she'd ever seen him. Hopeful, in fact. If he lied about their age, that could get four years. "We're fourteen, and I accept."

"Alright. I will speak to some of my men and get back to you with some people who will be able to protect her." I went into another room to go find a girl who would be willing to help if I explained. Maybe Joan...

Kenny stayed with Red.

"That doesn't mean you can't change, if you wanted to. Surely God understands that concept," I said, smiling.

I came back with a pair of girls, Kara and Jane. "These two are more than sufficient."
"Good afternoon." Jane said, ducking her head respectfully.

"Yeah it does... All I'm good for is doing bad things.

[Raven]

"Danielle, just because your power leans towards evil doesn't mean you have to be. There are plenty of people who don't even have powers who do good things. You're just as able as them. Plus, you could use your power to stop bad people," I said, shaking my head. I spaced the fact that she hadn't told me her power.

Red nodded. "Where did that man go with my sister, anyway?"

Danielle frowned in confusion. "How do you know that's why? I never told you my power was evil."

"Probably out to the gates. I just didn't want her in the castle." Because I might have decided to kill Red, and she didn't need to see that. These two will help you find them. She won't be harmed, and they'll be able to get you out of here without a fuss from Kailen."

[Raven]

Red nodded again. "Alright, let's go then."

Oops. I shrugged. I didn't have a good answer. "I just know. That's how I know you aren't a bad person, and why I was fine with coming with you. What kind of person would come home with someone after being told that they're the kind of person God would smite?" Oh God why didn't I stop talking? I should have said I was a mind reader. That would have been a good answer. Dammit.

"What do you mean you 'just know'? Have I possessed you before?" Danielle was looking her up and down, as if she'd recognize a person she'd previously possessed.

Once Red and the pair were gone, I sighed. "G... I hope I made the right decision here."

"No, you've never met me. It's my power. I know things. And uh, if a guy named Red or Kenny comes up to you with an offer, do yourself a favor and kill him, alright?" I hoped I'd made the right decision.

Adam scowled, but didn't say anything. "I'm sorry we messed that one up," Kenny said.

"An offer? There's nothing anyone could offer me." Danielle sighed. "And it's not as simple as just not using my abilities. Keeping them locked away and only using them on the rare occasion they could help doesn't work. I've seen it tried."

"It's fine. I don't think he's actually evil yet, that's all, just a little violent and with some serious anger management issues. His sister dies at about sixteen and that's when he goes off the deep end, so I'm hoping if Kara and Jane can keep the girl alive Red won't do anything."
