Ben nodded. "That would be awesome... But weren't you rivals?" he asked, glancing at Xander. He hoped talking about Alex wouldn't bother him too badly.

"Oh well Alex isn't exactly as nice as it seemed on TV. He let me joined up with his fighter group after he rescued me. Back then he had a massive group and was a pretty famous guy - he had Himself, Sharie, Sharie's sister Eloise, Adrian, Emeric, Ariel and a boy named Pierce, though he was there for about a week after joined up before he flipped his lid about some thing or another and left, so I didn't really know a lot about him 'cept he abandoned his sister Ariel for some thing or another. Anyway so I joined up with him, he was the one who first taught me how to fight, and I'm not gonna lie I was pretty starstruck at first. But the more time a spent with the guy the more I realized... he had... a rather high opinion of himself. He wasn't exactly the nicest to his friends either and I got pretty disillusioned as I got to know him. That's what inspired me to fight as my own group, actually. Alex was so different than he'd seemed on TV. I saw more of his good sides later but at the time I was just vastly disappointed, and I didn't think he was anything to admire. So I decided I'd break off on my own and start doing what he did, and be the man I'd thought he was. I spoke to one of his closest associates Sharie and she was just as sick of being pushed around as I was so one day I finally stood up to Alex, told him he was a jerk and we were leaving and asked the others to join us. Sharie's sister refused but Adrian immediately crossed over to our side. Well you can imagine how much that pissed Alex off, new kid coming in there and swiping half his team. We split off, found out pretty quickly not having the team healer around sucked and searched out those old gifted towns that used to spring up everywhere until we found Olivia. We reconciled with Alex a year or two later and since then we've had a friendly rivalry gong on and fight whenever we got nothing better to do since we both got healers and can do that - actually, we accidentally killed Ariel doing that, it was awful, I quit for like three months over it because I felt personally responsible, but I pretty much got forced back into it, that's a long unrelated story - but if we need help they'll always show up if we want an ally, and vice-versa."

"They were great people. My parents were relatively young, but we were well off. I tried to visit them when the cease fire first started, but it turns out they'd moved. But they were absolutely amazing people."

Xander shrugged. "We probably have more important things to deal with." He sighed. He'd lost so many people in such a short space of time... He wished he could have protected his friends.

Xander turned and instinctively sent a telekinetic blast at where the branch had cracked. Theywere being watched, he was sure of it.
