Vladimir nodded, naturally assuming he meant to use him as a food taster, not that he minded. He waited yo be excused, rather than just walking off.

Alex quietly closed the key cover on the piano and stood up. He listened again, for his parents, then led her upstairs.
"Go on, then," Kenny said, and left.

Jeanne followed, though slower since her mechanical legs did not greatly appreciate stairs of any kind.
Vladimir managed to locate the sewing room and made himself a simple ourfit, careful to use only the least expensive materials. When he finished he went out to the poor neglected roses, tending them with an almost motherly care.

Alex let her into his room, and shut the door behind her, then went over to his drawer and pulled out one of the rings.
