Melody smiled as his power fully took hold of her and she was sure it was no big deal. "I really a sorry about that. Just had to be sure."

Benedict smiled deviously, satisfied with himself. He glanced at Melody, his smile more innocent as he said, "It's fine. See ya later." He then departed, going to his next class.

Melody grinned and skipped off to her next class, perfectly content.

The next day was the performance day, and Portia came twenty minutes early. He bit his lip and looked nervous. It was a really, really bad idea for him to be singing this song in front of the teacher and the whole class. He shouldn't even have wrote it. But he'd promised Symphony he'd go through with it, and he wasn't about to back down on her. But then again, what if she figured out what the song meant?

As usual, Symphony was already there when Rick arrived, practicing the song on the piano as she waited for Portia to arrive and class to start.

Portia sat beside her. "You ready?" He asked. It was clear he was very nervous, an emotion rare on Portia's face.

"Yes. You're early," Symphony said after checking the clock. She didn't look at him.

"Yeah. Thought it'd calm my nerves." He shot an uneasy glance at the teacher. "You sure you don't want to sing?"

"I haven't sung anything in two years," Symphony responded. "I'd be out of practice."

Portia sighed. "Alright. Let's not go first though. I'd rather be somewhere in the middle." Stuff in the middle tended to be forgotten more quickly than either end.

"What? Why?" Symphony asked.

"Because stuff in the middle is forgotten once it's over. Stuff you see first or last sticks with you."

Normally, Symphony would have objected. "Fine," she answered instead. "We'll go in the middle then." It wasn't normal for her to willingly give up going first.

Portia was shocked, but didn't comment since he was getting what he wanted without having to lie.

"Anyway, we've still got about twenty minutes before class starts. Is there any reason you got here so early?"
