"Do you need anything else?" The waitress asked when she came around and saw them not eating.

"I think we're done," Frederick said, looking at Deborah to confirm this.

Deborah nodded, and the waitress pulled a small scanner from her back pocket that would read the tattoo. "Are you both paying, or just one?"

"I am," Frederick said and pulled back his sleeve to expose his tattoo.

She ran the scanner over the tatto and a second later thescanner turned green. "Have a good day, sir," The waitress said as she slipped the scanner back into her pocket. Deborah watched enviously, remembering when it was that simple for her, too.

Frederick smiled up at her, but noticed her expression. "Is something wrong?" he questioned.

Deborah shook her head. She shouldn't be ungrateful. She smiled softly and said "Just tired."

"Thank you for this. Truly. You have no idea how much this means to me." Deborah said outside the buildng. "I just live up on the second floor. I guess I'll see you some other time?" She felt self-cncious about her apartment, not wanting to show him how she really lived, in a small home devoid of anything.

"Yeah. If you ever need anything..." Frederick quickly scribbled his phone number on a scrap of paper and handed it to her.

"...Oh, thank you... but I don't own a phone." She said guiltily. "Anyway... I'm sure I'll be fine. You don't need to worry about me."

"Oh. Well, in that case, I know somebody who I think is living around here. He's probably renting out a room at one of the fancier places. Just say Freddy sent you, and he'll trust you well enough," Frederick said quickly, smiling as he remembered his friend. His parents had always told him to stay away from that whole group; he was glad he had some more interesting friends, especially now that he might need their help.
