"Oh...." Deborah said. "Well, I don't really have a lot to my name, was all I was really trying to say."
Kyla smiled back at him. "You know," She said quietly. "People used to know a lot more than we do now. I've only learned a very little, I haven't been studying long. But a high school student used to be able to tell you why volcanoes exist, how exactly almost any known chemical is composed at a level smaller than the human eye can percieve, or tell you when and why it's going to rain. They could even tell you what it looks like out there.... across the ocean. That's not something anyone today will ever learn. Except maybe a soldier, sent there to die. It's not right." She smiled. "You're right. We ought to do something about it."

Frederick nodded. "I have an idea," he started.
Ryan smiled. "Whatever you're reason, I'm glad. But I think I still have more basic lessons to learn before we start on volcanoes and chemicals and weather. I stopped pretty much at 'ain't ain't a word'." He reached out and patted her shoulder.

"An idea? For what?" Deborah asked, looking back to him in interest.
She smirked. "The sad thing is, it's really not that complicated." She was about today more, when suddenly the trapdoor not a hundred feet away opened. Kyla whipped around to face it, terrified. If any of her siblings had found it... Then Joanna stuck her head out, and Kyla was furious at her for making her so worried. "Joanna!" She went over there grabbed her by the arm. "How many times have I said to listen for people on the beach before you open the door?" she snapped. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I forgot!" Joanna cried, trying to squirm out of Kyla's grip. "Joanna, you know a thoughtless move like that could get me arrested? You too, if they spot you!" "Even when you don't have a hoverboard down there?" "Yeah. Forget arrested, I could be sent to triple R." Kyla said. "He's not going to tell on me, so there's no harm done. But remember next time, you hear?" She released her sister. Joanna nodded. "Sorry, Kyla." "What were you doing down there without me, anyway?" "Mom's been looking for you for like 5 hours." "What? How could she expect me to be around five hours ago? That's school hours!" "I dunno" Joan shrugged. "But she's really mad. " "Ugh." "Don't run into michael on your way up there." "Thought Michael was still at work." "His shift ended an hour ago, Kyla. Same with Sharons." "Brilliant." Kyla sighed. "I stay here and I get cussed for not going to school. I go to school and she gets mad because I'm not home!"
((Triple R - think the Ministry of Love in 1984. Stands for Reflection, Repentance and Reformation. I'll write more on it when it gets more relevant.))

"The kind of idea that could either get everyone involved in serious trouble, or get people like you better conditions," Frederick replied with a grin.
"What's down there you don't want people finding?" Ryan questioned, tilting his head with curiosity.

Deborah was surprised. "What's that?" She asked curiously.
"My science stuff. And my workshop where I fix people's hoverboards." Kyla answered. "I found the place a few months ago when I was trying to run away from home."

"A rebellion," Frederick answered. "It's one of the words that has been completely removed from our language along with words like fight, dictator, and a few curses."
Ryan nodded, but he quietly wondered what it would take for someone to want to live like he had. Or maybe they just didn't have an idea what living on your own meant. Then again, she wouldn't have had four other kids to look after...

"What does it mean?" Deborah asked.
"We can head down if you want, but we can't stay too long, my mother's furious already Not that she isn't usually, but still." She shrugged, like that was a completely normal thing to say. "Oh, this is my little sister Joanna by the way." "Hi!" Joanna said cheerily.

Frederick lowered his voice further. "To defy or rise up against the government. We could change something for real."
"Nice to meet you Joanna. I'm Ryan," he said. He was quite certain he hadn't given the older sister his name, or vice versa.

Deborahs eyes widened. "But... How? How is that even possible?" Her parents would disown her if they knew she even thought about something like that. It was blasphemous. And yet...
"Nice to meet you." Joanna said politely.

"If we got enough people, we could do it," Frederick said. "We could fight."
"You too." Ryan smiled. "You remind me of my little sister."

"Fight?" The unfamilliar word almost sounded hopeful.
Joanna looked unhappy at the comparison. "OH, I'm sorry..." "Joanna, when other people say that, it's usualy a good thng." Kyla laughed. "We're the weird ones." She turned to Ryan. "I've got to go... I've seriouisly gotta meet up with mom. If you want to take a look around, I'm sure Joanna can show you. Just don't touch anything. Talk to yyou later." She hopped up onto her hoverboard and flew off before he could answer. "Sorry Ryan. Mom's just really mad. Kyla doesn't wanna get into any more trouble than she[s already in." Joanna said.

"Go to war with, usually on a smaller scale," Frederick explained the word. "It's the same thing as an Act of Patriotism, only it can be between anyone."
Ryan shook his head. "Don't worry about it. Tell her we'll talk. I live in Nike, near Dallas. It really was nice meeting you."

Frederick nodded. "Nothing will change if we don't. I'm tired of taking complete and utter disregard for the safety of the workers at those factories I have to visit every day, but I can't do anything about it as it stands," he said. "You admitted you were lucky, but some people people aren't. I can't stand it anymore, not when we can do something about it."
Ryan smiled, waved, and left.

"Wow... That's really... amazing" Deborah said. Just then, the server came to take their orders. "Oh, um, I'll have the cedar planked salmon, and a root beer, I guess" She said to the server akwardly, then resumed thinking about what Fredrick had said.
