Persecuted and Over-Powered

"Yup!" David agreed.
Rook kept them walking until the sun was beginning to set. Then he found a somewhat clear area for them to stay the night in, with trees around them but no bushes or thorns that would make sleeping there uncomfortable. "I need six people to volunteer for watch, we'll be splitting into three shifts of three. David and I will be on the first one, Mercy on whatever spot's left in the second or third."

[Raven]

"I can be on whatever watch suits you," Kailen volunteered.
"As can I," Clara said.

[Gifted]

Rook divyed up the watches and Kailen ended up on the first shift. "First shift is the best." David told him. "Rook only keeps you up until like midnight."

[Raven]

"Yeah? That's cool," Kailen said, smiling. "It's good to not miss too much sleep." He was secretly relieved he'd get to watch Rook.

[Gifted]

"Yeah, I'm always exhausted whenever Rook puts us on a later watch. I wish he wouldn't."
"I only put you on late watches because you insist on being awake when I am, David, don't whine. Alright, We ought to be good for the night. We'll wake up the second watch around midnight. Second watch goes to bed at four. I suggest you all get as much sleep as possible."

"How often do you get found out after destroying one of the bases?" Kailen asked

[Gifted]

"Actually, immediately after we aren't approached much for the simple reason that there's no one left around to approach us." Rook explained. "But they're going to start chucking agents at us in a couple days so I'll be damned if we aren't ready by then."

[Raven]

Kailen nodded. "That makes sense. When did you start doing this?"

[Gifted]

"About nine months ago. That was my fourth hit." He told Kailen with a grin. "It's extremely satisfying watching them crumble like that."

[Raven]

"Yeah, it was... So do you have a base or something we'll be going to?"

[Gifted]

Rook chuckled. "Nah, kid, I just know what places are easiest to defend. I'm a runner just like you."

[Raven]

"Just like me?" Kailen questioned, glancing up at him. "How do you figure I am?"

[Gifted]

"Are you not?" Rook asked skeptically, eyeing Kailen with deep suspicion.

[Raven]

"Yeah," Kailen admitted. "But some gifteds have safe houses right?"

[Gifted]

"Yes, but safe houses are really temporary. You stick around in it too long and it gets raided, you're screwed. Smart gifteds stop in them to get washed up, eat and have shelter for a night or two and move on."
