Kailen shrugged, getting up with a new look of wariness on his face. "That's actually kind of a relief. I'm pretty sure Stephanie's imagination isn't as good at fighting as people who actually use those powers." He needed to get in close without dying... Should he just risk it? Then he remembered the knife. He quickly reached down and took it from Cody's hand.

Kailen jumped aside and rushed at her, holding the knife in his right hand, intending to slash at her if he got in range.

She let him, using one arm to block her face and throwing a blow with the other.

Kailen winced as he was hit, but grabbed her raised arm and pushed her backwards, bringing the knife in to try to stab her.

Pushing her backwards threw her off balance and the knife entered her chest. She choked out a silent cry and staggered backwards, collapsing like her husband before her.

Kailen quickly let go of her, feeling awful even though it was all in Stephanie's head. He tried to shake it off and go pry the boards of.
