In the blink of an eye Kailen was crouching next to the body again, the exact second he had left. Stephanie was next to him, but after a second she blinked and looked confused.
The wounded man smiled at them, then gave a loud cry of pain clutched his chest. After a moment his hand went slack and the light faded from his eyes.
"No, wait!" Stephanie grabbed his hand, but the man was already dead. "Damn... we can't be seen standing next to a dead body, let's go."

Stephanie ran out of the alley and they headed up down the street. They were almost to Kailens house by the time they slowed down. "The heck was that about?" She thought aloud.

"That's just what he thought. There might be some other, better world where we still exist," Kailen said, fidgeting. "I don't know, it just seems like a bad idea to not even try. At least we can fix the things that might not effect us. There have to be some things that would make this better that aren't going to erase us forever."

"Not erase you, just change you... probably," Kailen said. But the two of them wouldn't have met. Did it matter? Would their own memories change because of things they changed?
