Time Travel - Fixing the Future

Should he answer truthfully or try to make Stephanie be her agent identity? He didn't even know if she had a real ID for herself. "No, she's not."

Great. So two kids he didn't know were looking for him. Maybe it was time for him to get out of there. He checked his phone absentmindedly again, and gave a start. "Oh, crap! I got to go, I'm already late getting back to work." He stood up, despite having plenty of time. "Um, tell you what, we can walk and talk if you want, I still want to help you it'll just have to be after work."

[Raven]

"Sure, but I'm going to go ahead and keep looking. Where do you work? We can meet you later."

[Gifted]

Rick got up. "I work just up the street nearby." He said. "DO you have a cell? I'll call you."

[Raven]

"Er, no," Kailen said, simply. He had no idea if his cell number would work in this time. "Where at? What time do you get off?"

[Gifted]

"I get off at five but... kid. You don't have a cell? And you're wandering around here during school hours Might not be the smartest thing. People are gonna mistake you for a you-know-what." He looked as if the thought had just occurred to him. "Wait... are you a gifted? Is that why you look like you haven't eaten in ages? Oh, you poor kid."

"No, but it's about gifteds," Kailen answered. "And I just haven't had lunch yet. What kind of an idiot gifted would go looking for a manipulative agent?"

[Gifted]

Rick laughed. "I don't friggen know, one looking for a job? What kind of anybody would go looking for a guy who all they know about him is he's manipulative and he's an agent?"

Meanwhile Stephanie had found hr side of the street didn't extend too far beyond the government building, and so was heading back up the other side.

[Raven]

"Point taken," Kailen agreed. "But I think he's the only one who can help us, and I don't think it'll come at too much of a cost to us."

[Gifted]

"Alright. Well I'll keep in touch Like I said, I get off work at about 5. Pleasure to meet you." He held out his hand for Kailen to shake, watching for any flinch in the boys face when his power cut out. Of course, that wasonly a telltale if his power was one of the always-on types, but it was a better test than nothing.

[Raven]

Kailen shook his hand and didn't notice his power going away at all. He smiled. "It's a pleasure to meet you, too."

[Gifted]

Stephanie walked by and saw the two of them shaking hands through a window and grinned. She entered with a grin. "Wow, that was faster than I expected," She told him with a grin, trying to congratulate him while remaining to Rick ambiguous about exactly what she was talking about.

Rick frowned and there was a flash of anger of his features before he was suddenly calm, if a little worried. Truthfully, he was just trying to hide it. How dare this girl walk in and blow his cover!

[Raven]

Kailen noticed it and glanced at Stephanie. He was shaking hands with Rick Martinez? "Yeah, I wasn't expecting to get help this quick either," he 'agreed', smiling. "This is..." Kailen frowned. "Actually I don't think I ever got your name." He chuckled. "Anyway, he says he'll help us find Martinez." Stephanie probably hadn't realized he hadn't known this was Rick. Hopefully she would play along, and Rick would keep trying to play them along because he wasn't interested in an even worse ruse.

Stephanie felt like an idiot, not realizing Kailen hadn't known this was Rick, and tried to salvage the situation. "That's excelent!"
However, Rick saw right through the both of them. The way Kailen had nervously gone for Stephanie's eye, Stephanie's sudden stiff reaction only to neatly salvage the situation... She knew who he was.
So, knowing his ruse was up but being to polite to call them out on it, he laughed and said "Well actually kid, I'm the man you're looking for. Just working at a high rank in government you tend to be wary of assassins and blackmailers, so I thought it best to withold my information. But I trust you. I assume this must be your friend Stephanie?" He smiled and held out his hand to her as well. "Pleasure to make your acquaintance."

Stephanie smiled back at him. "Thank you, the pleasure's mine."

[Raven]

Well, that failed, and now he extra didn't trust them. "Yep, this is my friend." He smiled. "It's a relief to have found you, but it was fast."
