She nodded. "Well, that's something, at least."

He lowered his voice. "They published stuff we'd get shot for saying today. And people listened to it."

"I think we can trust him, but I'll keep quiet about you as long as you want me to. If you don't trust him, you don't have to interact with him. But I'd like it if you still helped. We might need a mechanic. And a scientist." Ryan smiled.

"People wrote things in the books too. It's obvious graffiti and I think some of the books were school property, but I don't think it was really punished considering how much of it there is," Melanie said with a frown.

"Oh, I'll definately help. And if it comes to that, I don't mind interacting with him. Just don't expect me to trust him."


"...And you don't think that's amazing?" Owen said. "That people lived with that kind of freedom?"

Ryan nodded. "Fine. I'll keep you a secret as long as you want, Kyla."

A small smile formed at the corners of Melanie's mouth. "Yeah, it is. Some of the things they wrote... It really showed how different things were."

Kyla grinned. "Thanks. Can't be too careful."

"Well," Owen looked around, but the street was still deserted. "If things were like that once, why couldn't they be again?"

Ryan nodded. "I really hope he doesn't turn us in," he said softly.

Melanie frowned. "Because the government would kill us. Or worse."

"Agreed." Kyla nodded. "If he's as trustworthy as you say, then he's going to be an enourmous help. If he's not... well, that's why we take precautions."

"If we lose, sure. But what if we dont lose? You can't tell me something like this has never been done, they've got a word for it after all." Owen said.

Ryan nodded slightly. "If we don't get caught, you have to fix my hoverboard," he told her with a grin.

"What are you talking about?" Melanie asked.

"Kay, fine." Kyla grinned back.

"I'm talking about a rebellion. This isn't just you and me and a few other people. Look at the factories. Those people risk their lives every day... if they lose a hand, that's it, they're out of a job. And hows a factory worker supposed to get another job? And the government does things behind the scenes, to thier own, which even some government workers don't know about. If we prepare, we could beat them."

"It would result in a civil war. A lot of people would probably get killed," Melanie said mater of factly.

"So we let them die in the factories? The government can have total control? They have no future there. We can give people a future."

[Raven]

"You don't sound like you're talking as a factory worker," Melanie replied vaguely.

[Gifted]

"That's because I'm not." He was taking a huge leap of faith here. But the very fact this girl had this sort of information and didn't turn it in was what caused him to trust her. But there was no bloody way he was giving a name. He was already regretting giving Ryans. He'd done that totally by accident.

"I'm not either," Melanie told him. "I don't like my father one bit."

"Then you and I have something in common." Owen smirked.
