It started in 2020, as a game, a RPG to be exact. V-Retech made it possible to bring yourself into a new virtual reality. A game in which you can live out you dreams. What’s your wish? Be thin? Be popular? Be Rich? It all just started out as a game. Then it changed when the glasses came out. The glasses that could transport you into the game, it changed from an alternate reality to an escape all together. You could become a whole new person and now you were just living a normal life.
The game usually had a few hundred thousand people at a time and with their staff, who worked inside the game, there was no crime, no sickness, and no need for worry. Sadly the outside world was nothing like this.
With the worlds starting to go into a never ending war no one wanted to live in this reality. To help humanity, and their wallets, v-Retech sold the game for long term use. They now ran the game from inside of the game, a new self-sustained universe with v-Retech as its leader.
Finally in 2031 a virus was released, though no one is quite sure from where it originated. Once you took a breath of the contaminated air you knew you would die. As the virus spread v-Retech released its game for free, to let all who had the chance to react, get themselves out of the real world.
That was one-hundred years ago. Now the game is what everyone knows as the real world. With sickness eliminated and around ninety percent of all crime being stopped V-Re is a good place to live. With v-Retech’s new technology in the last sixty years, child birth is now possible(though one must go through the proper legal process), and the world is ever expanding, there now being two billion surviving in V-Re.
Of course with that many people, not all crime can be stopped with a programs and there were still problems in the lower areas of the game. Though there was no longer poverty and hunger(food no longer being a necessity but a luxury), there was still rich and poor and an all new factor that decided the classes.
It was no longer birth right or money, no it was intelligence that started to rule where you landed. This all started when child birth was possible.
After each person had a child, when it reached the age of five it would receive its first test. The higher it did on the test, the higher school it would go to, and the higher the school the higher the class they would land in. Each student would take a test at the end of each year. The five year education was all that was required.
In the sixth year of school if you landed in the lowest ten percent of class you would no longer be allowed in school, and would be forced to find a job, which made ten year old apprentices being common.
It was impossible for unemployment, for they would make jobs for everyone, however pointless it seems. Not working is now a crime. Strike One: You are warned and assigned a job. Strike Two: You are sent to prison and put through working classes. Strike Three: You go on trial, if you lose the case you are removed from the game.
The rules seem strict to old society’s standards but it is the only way to keep order. This strike system is what the entire society is run off of. Three mistakes and you’re kicked out of the game and left for dead. But of course like any society there are always those who slip through the cracks, or better said, make the cracks to slip through.
There are rumors through the streets, about people who don’t fear the three strike system, The Graphers. These are the underground Hackers, the ones that are beyond the system. The rumor is that these ”under grounders” have found ways to stay out of the system, out of the jobs, out of the jails, and even out of The Game.
These people see this new world for what it’s really like a fake and prefer to live in the real world. But these people aren’t trying to free the society, no. the old world is now there’s, their “playground” in other terms. But now v-Retech is trying to crack down on these rebels, before they loose their world of control and profit.
