Adam drove home, collapsing into bed almost as soon as he got to his room. The next morning, he slept in, but when he woke, he texted Willow, 'How are you doing today?'

'I'm alright, just tired.' Willow texted him back.
It was that day that Liam decided to press the issue, wanting to see his sister. He hated the idea of Willow languishing in a hospital by herself. He came downstairs to see his uncle that afternoon. "Can we go see my sister?" He asked, getting straight to the point.

Adam sighed. He didn't want to hurt Liam, but he figured there was no way around it. Drawing it out would only make things worse. "Willow doesn't want to see you right now," he said. He wasn't sure if or when she would again, but that at least could be a blow for another day.

Whatever Adam was prepared to tell Liam, he couldn't bear to put the idea that he was like his father in the kid's head. "She says she never wants to experience something like that again. And I know you wouldn't let it, you'd try to stop it with everything you have, but you can't stop it."
