"Seemingly genuine relationships exist because there is mutual benefit to working with each other and that benefit is greater than the benefit of betraying the other person, that is all. Therefore, an authority figure who is able to bestow punishment on those who defy the agreed upon rules is always beneficial." Gri elaborated. She shouldn't have said anything.

"It's great. Everyone is really friendly so far." Tang answered. "What about you?"

[Raven]

"I think it'd be better with one less E." Roux grinned broadly.

Nisha thought about that. "I mean, you're not wrong. But sometimes that benefit is each other's company."

[Gifted]

"What do you mean by that?" Tang asked curiously.

"People are interchangable. If you rely on that you're going to be shocked at how easily you're replaced."
"That is an absolutely horrid outlook to have." Opal commented.

[Raven]

"It depends on the people," Nisha said.

Roux forced her mouth back to a straight line. "Beacon with one less E. Is bacon," she explained, and chuckled at her own joke

[Gifted]

Gri shrugged and didn't answer.
"So what, do you not believe in friends? Is that why you're being so anti-social?" Opal demanded.
"You could say that."

Tang laughed. "Oh, I get it! Still maybe they'll give us that at breakfast. Bacon at Beacon."

[Raven]

"That seems lonely," Nisha said.

"Yeah, maybe," she agreed. "Really, though, it's awesome, and really pretty here. I can't wait to get started."

[Gifted]

"Better than getting burned again." Gri responded with a small, uncaring shrug.

"Same here. What's your name, shortie?"

[Raven]

"Roux," she answered. "What's yours?"

Nisha sighed. "Maybe."

[Gifted]

"There's no maybe about it. Giving trust where it's unwarranted can get you killed."
"But you can't not trust anyone, you'll have a team and people you've got to work with." Opal pointed out.
"And teachers are around to ensure that relationship doesn't go south and put you in danger. Once you're separated from them, anything can happen."

"Tang." Tang responded. "So what do you fight with? Is it cool?" Tang asked curiously.

[Raven]

"It's a staff," Roux answered eagerly. "I think it's awesome."

"That doesn't mean it's never due."

[Gifted]

"A staff? You mean like this one?" She gestured to her own weapon, which she had over her shoulder. "My craftsmanship is a little rusty, but I like it."

"I hope you never get put into a situation to find out you're wrong." Gri said honestly.

[Raven]

Roux pulled hers out, snapping it fluidly into place. "I don't have blades at the end of mine," she said.

"I hope I never put my trust in someone who could prove me wrong."

[Gifted]

"That's so cool! It's so much more stable than mine! You have to give me pointers on how you built that thing." Tang admired the staff. "Does it have alternate forms?"

Gri shrugged and didn't respond.

[Raven]

"Sort of. It comes apart section by section, so I can have multiple that are shorter than the full staff," Roux said, smiling.

[Gifted]

"Doesn't that take a minute to disassemble, though?" Tang asked.

"Fine, be a downer, then." Opal muttered, and began talking to only Nisha. "So what do you fight with?"
