"If you want me to. I'd love to, but I don't want to get in your way..." Stephanie answered. "But I'd love to help. I have power over air, so I'm sure I can come in handy somehow..."

Stephanie smiled. "Alright. I'll try not to let you down." Se took his hand.

"Good." They disappeared, and this time, the non-time lasted a bit longer before they reappeared just inside the tree line in a forest outside the city. Kailen shuddered. "This is before we were born. It feels weird," he confessed.

"It'll be so cool to see though, won't it? I would love to know what San Francisco used to look like before the war." Stephanie grinned. "Have you been to the San Francisco ruins? They're massive!"

"I haven't," Kailen said. "I've heard it's interesting there."

"I went there on a class field trip once. " Stephanie answered. "Interesting is an understatement."

It was quiet. That was Flare Crockford's favourite thing about travelling in the woods. She always knew if she was alone. One of the few good things about her parents training was that it allowed her to feel the presence of other living beings, their blood coursing through their veins nearby. The silence allowed her to focus entirely on the feeling and the sound of creatures nearby, and avoiding confrontation was easier when she could hear anyone coming from a mile away. But she felt no one anywhere near hr now, and she'd found a quite peaceful place to stop and maybe get some sleep. But there was some preparation she had to do to sleep safely in these dangerous times before she could actually put down her head. But she had quite the system worked out to make sure she wouldn't need to fight when she awoke. In a very large clearing she began to get to work, using water under great pressure to carve out a large dip in the land with a sudden upward spike in the middle. When she was satisfied it was deep enough and wide enough that it would be difficult for someone to get to the center, she climbed onto the center and filled the entire ditch with water, creating a lake requiring somone to cross it to reach her. This way, no one could make their way to her silently and she could flee before anyone could make it to her to attack her. She lay down on her tiny island, and was looking forward to a few peaceful hours of sleep.

It was quiet. That was something Garnet had always embraced. The quiet and peace away from her family's murderous rampages, their victims' pain and horror. The pleading that she could never respond to in any human way, no matter how much she really did understand what they were feeling. The peace away from everyone else's sadness, anger, excitement... Happiness. Some would find it lonely, but Garnet cherished the times when the only emotions she could feel were her own. There was only one person in her family she would admit that she missed - her sister, Flare. Though the little girl had been manipulated for a long time by Garnet's twin, she was the only person who was actually decent in her family. Even little Crimson was simply too scared to hurt people on his own. He was more than happy to use a knife if he had backup. But Flare had been lost to her some time ago. Garnet didn't anticipate ever seeing her ever again.
Up ahead, Garnet saw a lake, and she paused. Water drew all kinds, and she waited to be certain she wasn't going to be ambushed before creeping warily closer. She crouched down next to the water's edge, cupping the water into her mouth with her hands, and then splashing some on her face. It was dark, but the warm summer night combined with her exercise made the cool water very pleasant against her skin.

The new rushing fluids and the sound of the movement in her lake acted as a natural alarm for Flare, just as it was intended to do. She opened her eyes, and it took her a moment to realize that someone was there. When she realized it, her whole demeanor shifted. Her sleepy peacefulness was crippled by sudden stab of fear and she was on her feet in a moment. One lone female on one bank - she could outrun this! She looked back to see what the intruder interrupting her sleep time was, and the image actually scared her more than she had been before. The shape of that face, the way her black hair fell around hr shoulders - Flare wasn't sure which one this was, she hadn't seen any of them in year, but she saw her mothers spitting image in that face. What was one of her siblings doing here?

Garnet took a deep breath, and then the peace of the night was shattered by a stab of fear. There was someone nearby, and they were afraid of her. At least they weren't planning on attacking. "I'm not going to hurt you," she said, looking around before spotting the figure in the middle of the island. "... Flare?"

Amber? Auburn? God forbid, Scarlett? Seemed to recognize her. "You stay away from me." She took a step back, her foot landing on the top of the surface of her lake. "I mean it, stay away! Seven goddamn years, I won't let whatever's left of you monsters take me back now!" She backed away further, standing on the water. She knew many of her old family had died or been imprisoned in the police raid - she'd managed to escape, only to break down crying and turned in by a well-meaning mother - but she had no idea which ones were the ones who'd made it out.

"Flare, it's okay. It's Garnet," the older woman tried to assure her.

Her eyes widened. "Garnet...?" All she'd ever wanted was to see Garnet again, but there was one other person who knew the inner workings of her head inside and out, who could see what was the exact correct thing to do. "How do I know you aren't Scarlett?"

"Scarlett's dead, Flare. And I don't have a knife."
