Persecuted and Over-Powered

[Raven]

Kailen extended his hand. "We need to get out of here."

[Gifted]

"Sounds good to me. I don't like open areas like this in good condition." She took his hand.

[Raven]

They disappeared, and when they reappeared, they were in a worse part of the city, and it was nearing sunset. "Her name is Isobel Belacqua," he said to Stephanie in an undertone.

[Gifted]

Stephanie raised her eyebrows. "Really? Well, there's your problem; she's who I was talking about. They've known about her for a good month already. Something about Bug catching her attacking her husband?" Though it was an accident, Isobel's power did occasionally end up hitting Adam or Kailen when she couldn't control it. "Anyway Flare really liked what Bug had to say about her power and after the last prisoner interrogator managed to kill themselves last week she's already decided she wants Belacqua as his replacement. They're just gathering information on how best to grab her at this point. If she's as good a person as you say it'll take them at least another six months to figure that out and plan an attack, doesn't mean they aren't watching her."

[Raven]

"I know that's who you were talking about... My name is Kailen Belacqua."

[Gifted]

"You're her son? Well, that makes a little more sense I guess..." Stephanie answered. "Yeah, if you go back a few months and prevent the attack from happenning, that's what got her on their radar so it might work... though personally I don't see a point." She sighed.

[Raven]

"What?" Kailen asked

[Gifted]

"Well, like, it's like the 'if you could kill Hitler when he was a baby, would you' problem." Stephanie pointed out. "Except you could actually kill Hitler when he was a baby. What is the point of running around trying to save this one woman in this time? Maximum effort for minimum result, you know? Best case scenario you save her life and then what? Some other schmuck gets forced into the job they were gonna force on her? You're a time traveller. You said yourself they were unbeatable now - so go back to when they weren't? Your mother is just as safe either way, right? Trying to save one woman over the course of a single year by stopping her from being noticed is basically the least useful thing you could be doing."

[Raven]

"You're suggesting I stop them from ever taking over?" Kailen asked, dubiously

[Gifted]

"Well, why not?" Stephanie shrugged. "You said yourself you can go back as far as you like, so give me one good reason why not. It's probably easier than what you're doing."

[Raven]

"I don't know where I'd even start," Kailen said

[Gifted]

"Well, they made you take History of the Empire in school, didn't they? Assuming any of tat is even sort of true, we could start at th earliest point where history can pinpoint where he was. He'd be less likely to have as much power as he's got now then."

[Raven]

Kailen frowned and nodded. "What about you?"

[Gifted]

Stephanie looked confused. "What about me?"

[Raven]

"Are you coming? They're just going to keep hunting you. It's not exactly possible for them to not realize you exist."
