Stephanie must have seen him, but she ignored him, turning away with a smile and pulling out a cellphone as one of the men with her opened the car door.

"Stephanie!" Kailen protested. What the hell? She greeted everyone but him?

Stephanie still didn't acknowledge him.

Kailen ignored the barrier, mental or physical and strode right up to the car. "Stephanie, I know you saw me," he hissed.

Stephanie looked shocked anyone could dare cross the line, but after a moment the same smile came back. "Well, hello sir! It's a pleasure to meet you, but I'm afraid you're supposed to stay behind the line. It makes my bodyguards antsy when you don't. Was there something you wanted to ask?"

Stephanie didn't even flinch at his name, not the slightest change of expression. "I'd love to have a conversation Mr. Belacqua, unfortunately I'm afraid I have to go for now, my time here is up. But it was nice meeting you, sir."

"I don't think so," Stephanie said with a puzzled frown.

"We went to school together." Had Kenny erased him from her memory? Oh, God. What the hell was he supposed to do?

Stephanie looked as if she were going to speak... and she did. She looked up and addressed the crowd. "You see this?" She said with an air of sadness. "People like this poor man are why we need healthcare reforms." She said aloud to the crowd. "There are few sadder sights in this nation than the very men who walk the streets in our own towns. The sick, the homeless, the mentally ill, who don't have the money or the support to be given the help they need. Are we as a nation, as a government going to just let these people waste away, that could one day be your brother, your child, when we have the resources at our disposal to cure them of their delusions, of their hardship? Are you going to continue to let people suffer under a government which doesn't care, doesn't think they matter? Or are you going to help change these poor folks plight? That's a question I need you all to ask yourselves when you plan on voting soon. Their fates are yours to decide. I hope to see you all at the polls when the time comes." Stephanie got into the car at the end of her speech with a final wave, and shut the door.
