Time Travel - Fixing the Future

"Okay, maybe not in the universe, but it's the lamest power I've ever seen. I mean I suppose if I was dexterous enough with two currents at once I could make a tornado, but that'd take out like a whole city block and cause a whole lot of collateral damage. So either I take out a whole city block, or I can't do anything at all. The hell am I supposed to do with that?"

[Raven]

"Work at it to get better. If you can learn to sort oxygen from the rest of the air you can more or less control flames, so long as you have a spark," Kailen said. "Small twisters, creating vacuums or just suffocating people."

[Gifted]

"Wouldn't it be neccessary to get down to a molecular level for that though? Can powers even do that?"

[Raven]

"How would I know? I can't do shit with elements," Kailen answered. "I don't think it would need to be molecular to keep the air from moving into somebody's lungs though. Just prevent the pull from working. Even if they still have air in their body, it'll turn to carbon dioxide and they'll be poisoned."

[Gifted]

"I guess I never looked at it like that." She acknowledged. "I haven't had a whole lot of practice with it though."

[Raven]

"You'll get better eventually," Kailen said. He sighed. "So are we gifteds on the run now?"

[Gifted]

"If it gets out we have gifts we're gonna have to be in this time."

[Raven]

"He doesn't know for sure, I don't think," Kailen said. "He suspected, but I told him we weren't. I don't know if he believed me."

[Gifted]

"I don't think he believed a single word we said to him." she said honestly.

[Raven]

"Do you think the disguises will work to keep us hidden?" Kailen questioned.

[Gifted]

"Yeah, I don't see why not, so long as you also disguise your personality." Stephanie replied with a shrug.

[Raven]

"I think I can do that... But it'll be harder," Kailen said. "I feel like I have a neutral personality, how do I change it so that he doesn't realize it's me from the brief time we spoke?"

[Gifted]

"Most people do have relatively nuetral personalities, you just kind of have to pick up different quirks of habit and speech you can alter at a whim... picking them up is the easy part actually, getting rid of your original ones is the difficult part. The more subtle the quirks you change are the more likely a skilled person won't connect them to you, but then again be too subtle and an amateur won't even notice the difference, which is why it's a good idea to have a good mix of overt and covert traits you change... but I'm getting too technical."

[Raven]

"So are you going to help me?" Kailen asked, grinning.

[Gifted]

"For now just look at the way you talk and try to to sound like someone else. Pretend you're your dad for one conversation, or a friend or a teacher or something. Someone you know well. That's a good first step, to imitate someone else. Then afterwards once you get the hang of that you can start trying to make your own personas."
