Time Travel - Fixing the Future

"Right." Kailen pulled it out and read it to her, then stuffed it back in his pocket and twisted his ring.

[Gifted]

The two of them appeared at the very edge of a town surrounded by forest, in front of a tall building.
"Is this the government building?" Stephanie said in surprise. "Aw, we should've changed." She checked the time with the ring again. "It's... right around lunch time, he's probably on a break. Shall we split up and look for him?"

[Raven]

"If we're wanting to change we can probably find a public restroom," Kailen suggested.

'Jade, they've been packing. They went shopping for decent clothes, and have both of their bags. Stephanie's is empty, and they're going to her hotel,' Austin relayed.

[Gifted]

"We'll need to if we don't find him before his lunch break is over, but that's risky, we'd be walking into a government building during the height of gifted persecution and we're both gifted ourselves." Stephanie had never mentioned having a power before, but now spoke as if it were common knowledge. "Not exactly a safe endeavor."

'They're leaving? Where are they going?' Jade asked. Jade knew for a fact Stephanie had brought like five suitcases (where do you think she'd carried all her clothes) but her even taking just one bag could last for weeks if she used it right.

Kailen glanced at her, surprised. "Right. Let's split up, then. When and where should we meet up if time runs out?"

[Gifted]

"Hm..." Stephanie looked around and pointed to a pharmacy. "How about there? Nobody'd be looking in a pharmacy for Gifteds and such. What could we possibly need in there?"

[Raven]

Kailen grinned. "Alright, see you in two hours?" Kailen asked, starting to back down the street to go look for Rick.

[Gifted]

"Right. See you." She headed off cheerfully in the other direction, not recalling that she'd never bothered to tell Kailen what Rick actually looked like.

[Raven]

Kailen himself didn't remember that until he was two blocks away. He swore under his breath and ducked into a diner.

Inside the diner it was very quiet. There was just one man eating french fries and hunched over a piece of lined papaer he was writing on. He didn't look very offical or anything, quite the contrary. He was wearing a red t-shirt with a small circular design on the left side of his chest and jeans that were clean but didn't exactly scream 'brand new'. He was frowning in concentration and as he picked up a pencil and wrote something down Kailen could see a long scar on the back of his hand, beginning at the tip of his middle finger and ending at his wrist.
"Afternoon darling, what can I get you?" Asked the lady behind the counter.

[Raven]

Kailen looked uncomfortable. He had just a bit of change left from shopping earlier. "Er. Can I get some coffee?" It seemed rude to not get anything.

[Gifted]

Rick looked up at the boy who'd just come in. He seemed uncomfortable, was alone, came into a place for food but with very little cash... and he was a boy whom Rick had never seen before, out of school in the middle of the day. This boy was probably a gifted. But he had to be sure. "Hey, kid." He folded up his paper with a smile and stuffed it in his pocket. "Sit down and I'll get you something, you look like you haven't eaten in awhile."

[Raven]

"I do?" Kailen asked. He didn't sounded surprised, but at his next words it seemed like he wasn't surprised that he looked as though he hadn't eaten. "That's very kind of you."

[Gifted]

"Get us some more fris for the kid, Linda." Rick said. He gestured to the seat across from him. "So, what brings you to my neck of the woods?"

[Raven]

Kailen, as it turned out, was really, really bad at coming up with false stories on the spot. "I'm looking for someone." He took the seat opposite Rick.
