Judas swallowed back a lump in his throat. What would they do if he said no? They'd totally abandoned Kiera, and Rakel seemed so angry... he supposed he could understand a bit. She'd given Kiera so much and Kiera was unwilling to help. But she had to know how insane she sounded!
He twitched slightly, going to speak, going to tell them no, when he caught sight of the gold markings on his wrist out the corner of his eye.
Rakel had given them so much... and she'd given Judas most of all. That little gold mark, what had once been a comfort, now felt like a threat. She had given him a way to prevent being obliterated, could she take it away again? Would she take it away again? She'd completely abandoned Kiera, what was stopping them from deciding to just make him disappear?
He didn't feel like he had a choice. They had his life in their hands. "Guess I better start practicing with my swords, then, huh?" He smiled a painful smile, feeling trapped.
