Once upon a time, there was a Really Disturbing Occurrence. This Disturbing Occurrence was…well, disturbing. Clearly, many people were affected by this, including one character named Chosen One.
Before the Really Disturbing Occurrence (henceforth to be referred to as R.D.O), Chosen One was a normal, if slightly unusual person. They were studious and had a semi normal and boring life, if just slightly sad. Chosen One naturally had a horrible or amazing fashion sense and a slightly epic yet totally unnatural scar/birthmark. That, of course, only proved the Chosen One's status as the Chosen One.
Of course, since the R.D.O, Chosen One realized that they were the only one who could ever solve the dilemma caused by the R.D.O. However, Chosen Ones of course must seek help! This is where he meets…
The Mentor! This sagely individual is the only person Chosen One has ever respected and for whom holds such great esteem. Being, of course, the same gender as dear Chosen One, this Mentor was an old teacher and friend. Mentor had, of course, always believed in Chosen One's abilities and powers to do absolutely anything.
Pre-R.D.O, Mentor displayed such faith and belief in Chosen One through making him carry groceries, pass the sugar, and other such character-building activities. Post R.D.O, of course, Mentor became the only one who could help Chosen One solve his dilemma. The advice came through an Oracle-of-Delphi moment. Of course, the moment was actually far less clear and straightforward, not to mention sans the toxic fumes. Thus, utterly confused yet filled to the brim with hope and confidence, Chosen One embarked upon their great journey.
This journey was fraught, I tell you FRAUGHT with peril of all kinds. Every possible species mentioned during and immediately after the Really-Disturbing-Occurrence showed up and tried to destroy Chosen One, who ultimately survived despite all odds.
After many pages and chapters of this perilous journey, Chosen One met, wait for it, Love Interest!! Naturally Love Interest is easy to identify with. It was immediately clear that this was the only one for Chosen One, if simply because it was the only person of the opposite gender seen thus far. Love Interest was enamored with Chosen One, and after a day or two, the couple discovered…
Really Rare Artifact!! My, this was an interesting twist. Love Interest discovered a Really Rare Artifact and somehow they managed to figure out that it could solve the original dilemma! The following conversation then ensued between Love Interest and Chosen One:
C.O: But, I thought this Really Rare Artifact was only a legend!
L.I: I guess not!
C.O: Could I…perhaps…touch it???
L.I: Oh, Chosen One! Touch it? You can have it!
C.O: You sure?
L.I: Of course!
C.O: But, it belongs in a museum
L.I:: Indeed it does! However, I want you to have it more.
Right then, however, the Mentor burst in! It was immediately clear that Mentor (who was holding an antique and deadly weapon no one had ever seen before) was actually Supervillain-Who-Turned-Out-To-Be-Evil-And-Was-Actually-Behind-All-Of-It-All-Along!! Love Interest screamed in fear and unfamiliarity!
Chosen One vocalized their distress about this awful turn of events! They were appalled by the disillusionment and their Mentor's treacherous ways (omitting, of course, their own flaws of gullibility).
Sure of victory, The-Character-Formerly-Known-As-Mentor began to ramble. This rambling lasted about 50 pages and was a detailed description of exactly what had happened. They were oh so smart and clever about absolutely everything! Mentor had orchestrated the whole R.D.O, and thus were the source of Chosen One's angst. Then, they used Chosen One to get at the Really Rare Artifact without having to work for it! The scoundrel!!
Unfortunately for The-Character-Formerly-Known-as-Mentor, the local authorities had been there the WHOLE TIME, remaining dead silent and listening to every word! Good heavens! They appeared right after the 50 page speech and then yelled at The-Character-Formerly-Known-As-Mentor and led the awful villain away.
Naturally, Chosen One and Love Interest were praised for their good work in aiding and abetting a felony. They were rewarded handsomely and rode off into the sunset. And if you are wondering, no, the RRA never made it to the museum.
