Professor Binns floated in the front of the room, as usual, readying himself to give the first first year lecture of the year. It was a speech he had given plenty of times before with little change.

As August entered the class she wasn't too taken aback my the transparency of her teacher, though for a moment she paused, before remembering Elijia mention to her about the only ghost teacher. The thought of Elijia frightened her more then the ghost. August hurried to the front of the class, taking a seat before resting her book on the table and her book bag to the side.

Lynn led the small group inside to see the subject of their previous discussion already sitting there. She glanced at Andrea. Kenny half looked like he might go sit by August, but he stayed with Lynn and Andrea, remembering the other girl's cold attitude in the hall.

Andrea followed them in and was surprised by the ghost teacher. Should she be surprised, or was this normal? Well better to be safe than sorry. She controlled her expression and sat near the back. The cool kids never sat at the front of the classroom.

Lynn sat at the end of the row, next to Andrea, forcing Kenny to sit on her other side. "Why is he a ghost? Shouldn't they have real teachers?" Kenny sounded really concerned.

"Maybe he was a real teacher and he died here." Andrea shrugged.

"But why didn't they replace him?" Kenny whispered.

As the class began to settle, Professor Binns began to speak "Welcome to your first day of History of Magic. To answer the question that is one all of your minds, my name is Professor Binns." In his monotone voice, he continued "You will need parchment, a quill, ink, and your text book for every class. Forgetting any of these supplies will cost you and your house points. Now everyone take out your book and we'll start by discussing the author." At that point he began to drone on about Bathilda Bagshot, not mentioning anything of interest, but fact about her proof checking and topics in the book.
August just stared down at her parchment. She started to take notes but in less then a minute it became a fight to not fall asleep.

Oh my god, how old is this teacher? Andrea sighed and listened to the teacher drone on and on about some stupid dead lady on the front of their textbook.

Kenny shrunk in his chair, then tried to nonchalantly look over Andrea's shoulder at her textbook, having not remembered to grab his from the dorms.

As Professor Binns continued to drone, he floated around the classroom. When he reached the back of the classroom he stopped and looked at Kenny. "What is your name?"

Kenny jumped and squeaked. "Kenny Clark, sir. I'm really sorry, I won't forget it next time, I swear."

Andrea looked up to the ghost teacher, thinking this was good opportunity to get into his good books. "Excuse me... Professor Binns? It's okay, I really don't mind sharing." She moved her textbook so it was easier for Kenny to see, as if to prove her point.

Binns looked to the two students for just a moment. "And your name is what?" he asked

"Wilkins, sir. Andrea Wilkins." Andrea said politely.
