"I don't know, this is stupid." Wesley replied, flipping through the book.

"This assignment, Mr Clark, is a charms assignment." Professor Harris said, continuing to read the books on his desk instead of looking up at the student. "I am sure and eleven year old can figure out the name of the class that they're in."

It was completely stupid of him, but Adam glared at the professor and said, "At least one of us is sure of the other person's intelligence."

"Twenty points from Gryffindor," Professor Harris spoke apathetically, turning the page of his book slowly. "Hopefully Mr. Clark will realize his actions have consequences."

Adam looked like he'd been hit. He bit back a retort and looked down at his book. What was he thinking?

As the time passed, Professor Harris closed his book and looked up at the class. "You are all dismissed for the day."

Evangeline had spent a good deal of time looking around Professor Harris' room for any books that might have additional material on the subject, as soon as he said that, though, she went to his desk. "When would be the best time for me to come talk to you?" she asked.

Now that the room was completely empty, Professor Harris looked up at his student, finally making eye contact with a member of his class. He let out a breath and said "Well, being on a first year schedule, you ca't really make it into any of my office hours, but if you are able to, I will be here for a bit at the end of the school day. Can you make it then?"

"Yes. Professor Harris, why do you only help one student?"

"Well," Professor Harris said, standing up so he could put the book away on his class shelf. "I will help all of the students if they ask." He slipped the book into its rightful place before turning around to look at the student. "But you kids have just been sent away to a school with moving stair cases and vanishing rooms. For the first time in your lives, most of the first years are away from their families and expected to be responsible for themselves. In the muggle world this rarely happens until children become adults." He paused, looking away from the girl and towards the window. "So I am treating students in a way that makes them have to take the initiative. For them to be the ones to ask for help, no matter what is stacked against them. THat make sense?" His voice was not condescending, nor was it talking down to the young student. Instead it was almost like a plea, hoping the girl would understand that from this point on, she as responsible for herself.

"For the first time in our lives?" Evangeline asked, honestly confused.
