Wesley had gone to muggle school at the insistance of his muggle mother until he'd gotten the letter. But he'd never bothered to remember much that wasn't directly related to school work. It wasn't important. If he needed to know, he could ask Tanner.

"So why don't wizards seem to have technology?" Adam questioned quietly.

[Gifted]

"What do you mean by technology, exactly?"

[Raven]

"Like, cell phones.... and televisions," Adam said, and shrugged. "Technology."

[Gifted]

"Oh you mean stuff that runs off elekticity?" Wesley asked. "It goes haywire 'round places like Hogwarts. No point."

[Sar]

"For those of you who have read through the introduction," Professor Harris said, raising and eyebrow at Adam and Wesley "You will begin to understand that most things in the book is straight forward and, if you just follow the instructions and theory, you're on your way to becoming a pretty good witch or wizard." He saw some of the students smiling, seeming to have already understood the text and beginning to have a sense of security. "But being pretty good at magic isn't going to get you anywhere in this class or the magical community," His words were blunt but, to his belief, true. "Now, can anyone answer me this; If you can just go buy a book to teach you, why are you here in class?"

Nikki frowned and raised her hand to give a possible answer, not sure if you could just call out here or had to raise your hand like in her old school.

[Sar]

Professor Harris raised his wand and pointed at the girl. "Yes?"

[Gifted]

"To get immediate feedback and correction if we do it wrong? And to keep us safe if something does go wrong?" Nikki offered.

[Sar]

"Well, that's a legitimate answer Ms. West," Looking at her uniform he added "Five points to Ravenclaw, but not the answer I'm looking for. Anyone else with an answer that isn't so obviously text book?"

Nikki grinned when he awarded her points but it slipped off her face when he said he was looking for another answer. If it wasn't that then what was it?

[Raven]

Evangeline raised her hand.

[Sar]

Pointing his wand at her like he had the Ms West he calls on the girl"Yes, Ms. Miller?"

[Raven]

"Because you can't learn everything from a text book. They're just written by people, and what works for them might not work for us..." She grinned. "And because they might not know everything. Some things might work better."

[Sar]

"YES! Ten points for a Ravenclaw saying things exist outside of books," Professor Harris said "That is a lesson that you all must learn. Books are a great resource but that's all they are. I want you all to be independent thinkers in here." He walked to his desk and stood by his chair. "So, for your first lesson, you have a week to master the feather weight charm. Use any resources you can get your hands on." He paused before adding "And to make it interesting, student who does the closest to perfect charm and best resources gets a prize," He then sat down in the chair in front of the desk, looking at a near silent class. "You can start!"
