Flying Lessons

[Gifted]

Professor Viette positioned her set of broomsticks in neat, ordered rows for the students coming in for their flying lesson. She loved teaching the little ones, especially the muggle-born children. It was always beautiful to see the wonder on their faces as they flew in the air on a broomstick for the first time. When the broomsticks were positioned. When her first students showed up, she said "Good morning! Everybody please stand beside a broomstick. If you are right-handed, please stand on the left side of the broomstick. If you are left-handed, please stand on the right."

Kenny smiled when he saw his brother, and immediately stood beside him, on the right side of his broom. Adam sighed, but didn't object. He had kind of missed his brother. He stood on the left side.

Lynn had walked down with Andrea after meeting up with her for breakfast. "What happened last night after I passed out?" she asked quietly.

Andrea shrugged. "They made everybody swear allegiance and told us not to tell the faculty on pain of death. You and that other kid before you were the only dumb ones."

[Raven]

Lynn humphed. "I wasn't being stupid, I just don't like it when people insult my family. It's not my fault my sister cursed me. I did swear allegiance to Slytherin." She sighed. "I hope they aren't too mad at me."

"Don't you know when you're dealing with domineering types like that you're supposed to just sit down and shut up until you can work way in?" Andrea shook her head. "Anyway, at least you weren't as stupid as that other girl. Did you hear the comment she made about pure-bloods?" Andrea laughed and shook her head.

[Raven]

"Yeah, she was an idiot. She was still out cold when I got up for breakfast," Lynn said.

[Sar]

Right as Lynn finished her sentence, August entered the courtyard, heading towards a broom, taking one close to the gryffindors, one of the few spots left. Her face was expressionless as she just stood there, politely watching the teacher.

Thant's when Wesley sprinted across the lawn. "Sorry Im late, Professor." He panted.
"You're just in time." Professor Viette corrected him.
"Alright, everyone, I am Professor Viette! I'm sure you're all very excited to fly today." She looked around, smiling at the children. "Alright, let's get started. Please stick your dominant hand over the broom, and say 'Up!'"

Flying was one of the few things Wesley was good at, so he was confident when he commanded the broom "Up!" and it jumped into his hand at once.

"Up." Andrea said, but frowned when nothing happened. "Up? Up!" The broom rolled a bit but remained where it was.

[Sar]

August looked down at her broom. I the back of her head a voice rang If you're going to go a spell you've got to mean it. She stuck out her hand and waited, her mind only thinking of the broomstick. "Up," She said aloud, the broom flying up to get into her hand. There was not look of shock on her face, or any emotion for that manner. Just apathy as she stared at the broom that now occupied her hand.

Lynn had to command the broom four times, but at last it jumped to her hand.
Adam got his immediately.
Pleased to see his brother get it right off, Kenny was eager to try. "Up!" But nothing happened. He glanced around, and noticed that the girl next to him - Andrea - didn't have hers either. "Up up up!" The broom rolled over, but after once, it gave up on that too.

Professor Viette went around to help the kids who were having difficulty and helped them. She showed the kids how to mount the broom without sliding off the end.
"Alright! Now we're going to try actually getting airborn!" She said cheerily. "Now, we're not going to do anything too too drastic here. I'm going to count to three and blow my whistle. I want you all to push lightly off the ground on my whistle. Don't push too hard, we don't want you losing control of your broomstick. You'll rise a few feet off the ground. Then gently tilt the broom forward to fly back down. Is everyone ready to try?"

[Sar]

August mounted the broom and waited for the instructions to push off the ground.

Kenny mounted his broom, but looked a little scared. Adam looked thrilled.
Lynn braced herself. They all nodded.

[Gifted]

"Alright!" Professor Viette said. "One... two... three!" She blew her whistle.
Andrea kicked off gently, nervously, and her face split into a wide smile as she rose into the air. This was amazing!

Wesley shot up but he pulled to stop before he'd outstripped the other kids too far.

August pushed herself up of the ground and brought herself to floating. For a moment it shook but she became steady.
