Francis slipped Josh's arm around his shoulders to help him walk, asking him to tell him directions.

Jeanne was blushing again as her heart did a happy little backflip, and she scooted slightly closer, brushing against him now, though not so close that he couldn't lean away if he so chose.

Alex wasn't sure how he felt about that. A knot of uncertainty formed in his belly as he wasn't sure what to do. Now that there was nothing else, he felt uncomfortable being so close to her. He was so aware of everything.

She felt him tense up and regretted it instantly. She quickly stood up, trying to stop herself from feeling hurt. "I should probably go... Bear.. Bear probably misses me" she muttered weakly.

Josh gave directions and it took about twenty minutes to get home. His home was two stories with a balcony on the front and a large proch. He struggled up the porch steps and pushed open the door. "Mom, I'm home." "Joshie! Where have you been all day?" His mom's shrill, worried voice came from the kitchen.

Francis remained silent. It was so different from his home, but he wasn't about to tell Josh that. He'd let Josh handle his mom, at first at least.
No matter how uncertain Alex was, he was very certain he didn't want to be left alone. "Can't we play just one game?"

Jeanne hesitated, then sat back down, albeit not so close. "All right. What do you want to play?"

"Whatever you want to," Alex answered. He could play anything here any time. There wasn't much excitement in that, but if she picked something she might stay longer for it.

"You missed dinner!" Josh's mother was a short, plump woman with dark hair that curled around her chin. She had very similar eyes but otherwise was a sharp contrast to Josh, she was taller than average and scrawny thin. "Oh my god, what happened to your leg!?" "It's nothing, mom." Josh said, trying to limp into his house and towards the stairs. His mother ran over and hugged him. "Not a chance. Now you tell me what happened to your leg young man."

"Um, I'm not sure. I'm not the best," she said, looking through his collection. "And I don't know that a video game would be the best idea if we don't want your mom hearing us.." she said. She didn't, in truth, want to be ther eif it made him so uncomfortable, but also thought she had a valid point. She absolutely did not want aconfrontation when the woman already disliked her so much.

"Maybe you can go get Bear then, and maybe we can walk them all..."
"I did it," Francis said. "He probably wants to sit down."

Jeanne nodded. "That could be fun," she said. "How would you like to go about it?"

"Er, you should probably use the rings to get down the block, and I can meet you there with Rose and Ginger." Rose licked him as her name was said, and Ginger's tail wagged her across the room.

"Yeah, see you there," Alex said, crossing his room to the door.
