"We're starting a new unit on partner dances, class," the dance teacher announced. "We're starting with the waltz. Everyone get into partners." In the end, Trick and Cristel and that one strange girl who always avoided doing anything because of asthma were the only ones without partners. "1331, 1339, partner up." Trick glanced at Cristel. Of course.

Cristel hesitated. She really didn't want to do this... but it didn't appear she had a choice. Letting out a loud, angry sigh and scowling darkly, she walked over to Trick. "Give me your hands," she snapped, meaning for them to get into the correct position for the dance.

Trick flinched at the words, as if she'd slapped him. He didn't speak as he held out his hands. Her foul mood was beginning to make him nervous. What had he done that was bad enough that she wouldn't talk to him for a year? And if he'd done something so horrible, why couldn't he remember it? He still, to this day, had no idea what had caused everyone to stop speaking to him. His hands were shaking.

Cristel held his hands rather too firmly, though it wasn't like she cared. After quickly checking on Ruby to make sure she wasn't going to do anything funny, Cristel proceeded to completely ignore her partner and set about trying to learn this stupid new dance.
