Ryan looked up sharply at the sound. It wasn't loud, definitely not loud enough to wake any of his siblings (they were all ridiculously heavy sleepers), but it was loud enough to be heard. He hesitantly opened the door and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Owen. He quickly stepped aside to let him in, so no one would see them - or the door.

Owen slipped into the library. "I've figured it out," he said quietly, his eyes lit up with excitement. "What the sound is."

"Well what is it?" Ryan said, his face the picture of curiosity.

"It's music, Ryan. But here... you should listen closer to what they say. That's what I came to show you. It's crazy." He unwound the wire/cord thing from around the walkman.

Ryan nodded and sat against the wall, holding the earpiece as far from his face as the day before. He'd heard crazier ideas.

"Oh, I turned the sound down." Owen said, as he turned it on, noting how far away Ryan was holding them. "Apparently they called it 'volume' back in the day. Makes no sense to me. but they're not insanely loud now. But listen." He turned the song on.

Ryan smiled at the oddity, then he put the earpiece where he assumed it belonged - on his ear.

he turned on the same song that he'd first listened too.

Ryan listened for only a second before he exclaimed, "There's that word again." For Owen's sake he clarified, "Fight, it's in a bunch of my books."

"Is it? I never really understood the first few lines. But keep listening."

Ryan listened. "Rebel was there too. I think it means warring against the government, or a person at war with the government," he said when the word came up.

Owen nodded. "That makes sense in the context. The whole song is like that! This stuff was supposed to be public, right? Everyone heard it? But the stuff they say... we'd get shot if we said it today! and they went PUBLIC with it!"

"It's in the books too, and I know at least some of them were from libraries, maybe that's why we don't learn history, because of the things they were allowed to do that they don't want us to do," Ryan said, his eyes lighting up in excitement.

"I didn't even know people could live with so much freedom... if we can, then why aren't we?"

"Because the governments lead us to believe we can't, they've completely obliterated these words from our vocabulary Owen, and that's not what I call fair." Ryan grinned.
