She eyed the beans then looked up at the boys "Postitive," she then paused pointed at Tanner and said "Tanner and your brother is Wesley," she stared at his face, trying to make sure she was right.

Tanner and Wesley nodded but said nothing.
"A Hat? Really?" Nikki seemed to find this funny for some reason. She was thinking of Muggle "magicians" pulling a rabbit out of it or something. How perfectly ordinary!

August turned back to them and smiled and tried to think of small talk "So what our your owl names?" Ngaio stayed still, seeming to eye the owls suspiciously.

"It could be worse," August laughed "This one," she moved her shoulder up to point out her lizard "Got stuck with Ngaio. Meaning Sly I guess. He's had that name as long as I can remember."

"What? No!" Nikki laughed. "Haven't you guys ever seen a magic show before? Nor- er, Muggle people put tem on at carnivals. It's not real magic, obviously, but that's what they call it. One of their tricks is to pull a rabbit out of a hat."
"You didn't name him?" Tanner asked. "Who did?"

"We never found out, Borgy just got him one day from some hooded guy that wanted to sell him. I guess his venom is a rare potion ingredient or something, but we never found out to much," August stroke Ngaio's back and then added "Not the first pet that showed up in his shop with nothing but a name," She chuckled a little

"That sounds stupid. All it would require would be an enlarging charm. Even I could do that," Ryan said, frowning. "Do Muggles actually pay to see that?" He himself had been to a carnival when he secretly stayed at Eric's house the summer after their first year. They hadn't seen any magic show, though, since nothing was new about magic for them.
Evangeline, however, seemed stuck on a much more basic concept. "What's a carnival?"

Nikki shook her head. "But can you do it without magic, Ryan? Muggles don't believe in magic. It's a sleight-of-hand trick. And a carnival is like a bunch of shows and rides and things that travel around from place to place for non-magic people to enjoy. They're really fun." She nodded. "I know a few tricks from the magic show from the kit I got when I was seven, but it's nothing, really. A lot of kids know how to do them."
Tanner and Wesley were surprised but said nothing.

"Sure, I can do those kinds of tricks too. My dad's office is rigged so that if anybody uses magic in there, he's alerted." Ryan grinned. "It isn't rigged against me picking the lock."
Evangeline looked intrigued. She decided that she would have to go to a carnival some day.

"Well, yes, but you can't do that on a stage." Nikki said. "It's like... hm... let's see... well, there's the box trick. They step into a big box, and then they close it and they say some silly incantation... Alakazam or something like that. Then if the shows really good there'll be smoke, if it's not they'll just open the box. Either way the box is empty. Realy, thwere's another door in the back and they just slip out and stand behind the box, but the box looks solid from where the audience is sitting so they think he vanished... or... hmm... there's the one where they cut a person from the audience in half... except not really, obviously, the persoon is secretly an assistant and their legs aren't really in the other half, but it looks that way. I'm sorry, I'm boring you, aren't I?" Nikki blushed, realising they'd never asked, and she probably sholdn't be talking about it.
After awhile, Wesley inturrupted her. "Shouldn't we change? We'll be at hogwarts soon."
