"I dunno if that's possible, August." Tanner said. "There's not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin. Did you know Voldemort was one?"
"Voldemort went to this school?" Wesley asked.
Tanner nodded. "Over seventy five years ago."

"Snape? Yeah, that is true. But if you want to get down to statistics, I could start naming Death Eaters. Bellatrix Lestrange. Lucius Malfoy. Theodore Nott. Macnair, Crabbe, Goyle... I know quite a few, the battle of hogwarts and Lord Voldemorts reign of terror is something I've been interested in since I was a kid... and as my brother says, I read rather too much. But I dont really want to argue about it, it's a personal choice. Besides, it is true not all Slytherins are bad. Look at Regulus Black. Or, as you said, Severus Snape. But it's a personal choice, I don't need to debate it with you."
"...Out of curiosity though, why Slytherin?" Wesley cut in. "Is your whole family in that house or something? Usually I'd expect like, Ravenclaw for smart people or Gryffindor for bravery, I didn't think anyone'd want to be in Slytherin initally."

"Non-magic people," Evangeline explained. "The four houses are Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Slytherin, and Hufflepuff. Ravenclaw is made up of outside-the-box artist type thinkers, Gryffindor mostly just brawn, Slytherin is cunning, but more of an inside-the-box type smart, and Hufflepuff is where all the kids that don't fit anywhere else go."
Ryan frowned at her explanation. "That's not true. There are smart people in Gryffindor and Hufflepuff too, and Slytherin has tons of thugs."
Evangeline shrugged.

"Well to be honest," August said, putting her hand on the back of her neck. "My dad and aunt were both Slytherin... But also.. Borgy, a friend of mine.. Was Slytherin and also.. It would piss my hufflepuff mother of beyond belief." August laughed "She hated Borgy beyond belief."

Nikki nodded. "That sort of makes sense, I guess." she said. "How do they decide who goes where though? I mean, how do the teachers know if you're smart, or cunning or whatever... is there some sort of test?"
"That makes sense." Tanner nodded. Just then, an older woman appeared in the doorway.
"Anything off the trolley, dears?"
"Heck yes!"Wesley said. "Tanner, you want anything?"
"Other than the Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans and Chocolate Frogs you always get? Maybe some gum and a licorice wand," Tanner said, shrugging.

"No, they have the sorting hat. It can tell, somehow. I think it reads your mind, and talks to you in there... That's what I've heard, at least," Evangeline said.
"Yeah, sometimes it does, but only if it's having a hard time deciding which house to put you in. Sometimes Mcgonagal barely puts the thing on someone's head and it shouts out a house. Its rare for it to take longer than four minutes, otherwise we'd be there forever. But sometimes there are a few hatstalls who take longer," Ryan filled in.

When the lady looked at her she tilted her head to the side and then said "No thank you. I think I'll manage," she looked at the boys and said "As long as I don't get hufflepuff I'm fine though. Nothing wrong with being a badger but if I was in the same house as my mother I'd never hear the end of it,"
