"I can't wait for our first lessons." Nikki nodded to Violet happily. "Come on, sortings almost over," she pointed to the tiny amount of people still left. "I wonder when the food is coming..."

August saw the other girl who was sitting down at the Slytherin table across from her. She looked up at her and then back to the stool, where the last student was called to be sorted.

Andrea walked forward, trying to look nervous and timid, and put the Hat on her head.
She didn't even have time to sit down before it yelled "SLYTHERIN!"
Andrea set the Hat down carefully and went eagerly down to sit across from August.

Cromwell motioned for Marx to take a seat and for the hall to quiet. Once everyone had fallen silent, he spoke, "Welcome, to another year at Hogwarts! Now, I'm sure you're all very hungry, so I shall not keep you waiting any longer: enjoy the feast!" He waved his arms in a conducting-like way and the feast appeared on the tables.
"Yes!" Ryan exclaimed, standing up to reach around Eric for a chicken leg and some rolls.

Marx sat in his seat and watched Cromwell as he spoke. It was a rather lame speech, he thought, but it was better than nothing. He casually dug into his food, making small talk with the other teachers.
Eric blocked Ryan with his entire body and snatched a chicken leg before him, biting into it in a show-offish manner.
Liz stared at all the food available. It took her mind off the seperation from her brother for the time being. She gnawed on a corn cob.

"Oh wow!" Nikki cried, shocked when the food suddenly appeared on the plates. She looked around at the amazing selection of food, and after a few minutes began serving herself.
Andrea was just as surprised when the food just simply appeared, but she gave no sign, watching carefully to see if anyone else was surprised. When nobody was, she served herself and began to eat.
Tanner smiled at all the food. There must be a hundred house-elves here to make that amount of food.
Wesley grinned at Ryan and Eric's antics. These were some boys he was going to get along with. He wondered how many classes he'd have with his brother as he served himself some food

Ryan stuck his tongue out at his friend, leaning on him as he got his food.
Lynn smiled and took a baked potato, delighted to find butter as well.
"I wonder how they do that. Well, magic. But can you make food with magic? Does it taste different?" Violet asked, taking a biscuit. She bit into it and announced, with pleasure, "This is amazing." Though, it's not like Dad's a great cook.

Nikki shrugged. "My family is takeout central, so I practically never get food like this," She piled brocoli onto her plate. "Tastes good though," She smiled.

August looked at the food. She grabbed a grilled chicken leg that took up most of her plate and a roll. She then took a bag dead bugs and put two on the table for Ngaio. The lizard climbed out of her pocket and rested in front of the bugs, eating them slowly. She took a fork and knife to eat the chicken and in between bites she would take a large drink of water, in which the glass just kept refilling.

"We can't afford takeout most of the time," Violet replied, blushing. "Usually we get whatever's for sale. Recently we've been getting 99 cent burritos from Taco Bell." She smiled nervously.
"Good luck finding a restroom in this big place," Lynn said, smiling slightly.

"oh," Nikki felt sorry for her. "We can afford it well enough, but my parents are lousy at cooking. Mom's an electrician and dads a scientist, so it's not like their work helps them any. So its either my mom reveals how inept she is at cooking, or we get takeout." Nikki shrugged. "I always enjoy Chinese food nights, so I guess I shouldn't complain. But I haven't had a real, home-cooked meal since grandma died." She blushed, worried she was talking too much.
